My version of the beach stand

Built myself a beach stand today. Sick of running my ski aground during breaks, re-fueling etc. In total it cost me $25 at Homey Depot. You only need five parts total. 4 2" SCH40 90's, 4 2" SCH40 T's and one 10' stick of 2" SCH40 drain pipe.

Basic parts you will need.

First, I measured my trailer bunks to determine the width. I was 12 1/2" for my Superjet

Next I made the ends of the stand. The pic should be pretty self explanatory of how I did it. The length of the cross members and the small pieces I had to cut to couple the T's and 90's determined the overall length of the stand. I just took the length of pipe I had left over after making the ends and cut it in half. Wound up being about 4' long total.

Once it was all glued together and dry I drilled vent holes in the tops of the long runner pipes to allow air to escape and let water in so the stand will stay submerged.

Well, thats about it. I may end up carpeting it eventually. I haven't taken it to the water yet but Ill report back with the results. Thanks for looking, Matt

i built one exactly the same way (without the holes drilled) and its held up for two years now. cheaper than a AC scissor stand

Nice, and if this one gets stolen out of the bed of my truck I wont lose any sleep. I think it took longer to go to Depot, get the parts and drive back than it did to build the thing.

Just went to the lake and tried it out. Worked great. I found leaving about a 1/3rd of it out of the water works the best. The vent holes let the stand fill with water super fast too.

nice job on the write up

built one the exact same way, strapped the ski to it and then had it crated for shipping

now it serves double duty as a beach stand, truck bed stand!
i'm thinking of adding removable castors so that i could use it as a dolly in the garage

looks good.is that pvc really strong enough to hold a ski?? i would think you need legs in the center bars>

for water is is fine. i would not keep it on it in the garage for any period of time. some one on here or pwct had a pvc stand bust and drop his ski on the garage floor.

I made one almost exactly the same - alittle taller in black PVC - It scratches the bottom alittle so I'll be covering it in carpet. The holes are a most to keep it from floating away. I don 't think it cost $20 total.

Build one just the same as well. I found that I had to grind the edges down on the 9 degree couplings for when my ski slid off, it would take some of the gel coat with it.

no need to reinforce in the middle up to 4ft. with the ski on the stand it barley defflects half an inch. there is no way the PVC will bust under your ski with those dimensions.

even though i would not like it, if the ski does drop its no more than 5-6" off the ground. (not a good argument don't know why i made it!!)

Need to put some turf on the top of that to keep the ski from sliding off and 24" length works just fine for a SJ.
Also a 1/2" hole on the inside of each 90 deg lets it sink quite well if you end up turfing over all those holes.

Are we there yet?
Yep, Just got back from Blowes or a Lowes. Had to buy primer & glue so it cost me $27 not bad. I had planned to do this this week anyhow. So thanks for doing the brain work!

don't use the black pvc.. not the same. I have had three stand like this. they all held up until i would be super tired coming in and try to kick the ski on it or ride onto it.
