Need a recommendation ... and advice.

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've posted ... and that's sort of why I need some help and advice.

Work has been keeping me very busy, unfortunately too busy to work on any of my machines ... so they're just sitting.

A friend of mine recently moved, and sold me his Waveblaster that used to be owned, and raced, by Tim Judge. It's a 6 mil stroker, total loss ... and that's about all I know.

The machine last ran in 2001 as far as I know, and has been in pieces for about 3 years. The crank seems fine, which is a good thing, but the cylinders need a bore and hone. They probably also need to be cleaned up, and re-painted.

Here's what I need help with ...

I've NEVER had anyone else work on my machines ... at all. But, this one is beyond what I can do right, and I don't have the time to do it.

I think I'm going to need a bore, hone, new pistons, rings, clips, pins, and bearings. The carbs probably need to be rebuilt, and I'm guessing I'm going to need new reeds as well. Obviously, going to need new gaskets all around too ...

Basically I'm sitting with a box of parts, and since I've never had anyone else work on my machine, I'm looking to find out how it works, turn around time, etc ...

I'd like to get back an engine that I can just plug the MSD into, drop into the hull, shim, and go ...

What kind of price am I looking at, and who would you recommend to do the work? I live in Orlando, and don't mind shipping to chuck, paul, kevin, or whoever to do the work ... I'd actually prefer shipping it to a real builder since Orlando sucks for PWC shops, and I want to be sure it's done right.

So ... any recommendations? And, if you own a shop, feel free to PM me.

Oh, I guess I should also ask this ...

Should I ship the MSD too? It's a total loss system and I'm not sure if it's working properly. I know the coil is cracked, but according to the guy I bought it from ( a friend I trust ), it's damaged, but was running properly when disassembled.

And, I know this is the freeride forum ... I'm going to be using it for surf, not racing. ;)

Sounds to me you have a basket case. If your using it for rec riding I would ditch the TL and return it to stock for starters. I'm sure you can sell it and make enough for the stock parts. The rest your just going to have to dig in and find out if its good or not.

I would highly recommend Chuck from Team Scream to perform the work.

He is one of knowledgeable engine builders and tuners with many years of experience.

I would also highly recommend Chuck from Team Scream or Paul at Lehr Performance or Art out at Jetworks.

Honestly if I were you though I would go to Tim Judge himself. If this is indeed his old boat then he would know it better than anyone. He is still around and has actually started a business of his own.

He has and will always be the man when it comes to building blasters. Hands down. I'm sure Chuck, Paul, and Art would probably agree. No one knows blasters better than that guy.

By the way if you get to the point where you feel you are in over your head with this ski I might be interested in buying it off you.

I've been looking for a good race ski that I can fix up and get into Sport Class racing.

It doesn't look much like it did then ... except it still has a small "yamaha" sticker on it, the one that used to appear below the word "Riva" on the race boats.

The only remaining hint it was TJ's is the bill of sale, and original title I have for it ...

Yeah, I know he has a shop ... but I've been hearing that turn around time down there is 6-8 weeks. And, although it's his old engine, I don't see why anyone else couldn't do the top-end work?

I think you'll find that a lot of good shops are backed up as you can see from Chuck's above post.:biggthumpup:

I completely agree. If you're looking to just use it as a rec/freeride boat then any good builder could do the work, but if you were looking to restore the boat back to it's original condition and possibly race it then TJ is the man.:biggthumpup:
