Other Need help - at this point maybe an exorcist !

I have a 2000 RN Superjet that has been baffling me. The ski starts right up, idles smooth and runs perfect for about 20 minutes. It takes me about 10 minutes to cross the bay and go out Shark River inlet to get to the ocean, once in the surf I get about 5 to 10 minutes before it goes to crap. I have always felt it was an electrical problem but I am open to any suggestion. It feels like the rev limiter is kicking in after a quarter throttle. I can still ride the ski, but once I crack the throttle it just starts breaking up. Yesterday I rode in the bay for 20 minutes with no problems, once in the ocean I jumped about 8 feet in the air with a bit of a flat landing and it immediatly went to crap, which makes me think something is shorting out. I continued to ride for another half hour (running like crap) then went slow through no wake zone back to the bay, once in the bay, it runs perfect again. The compression is about 170 in each cylinder, It runs cool, no overheating, I've ridden with hood off, no exhaust leaks that I could see, I installed a brand new battery I have replaced - solenoid / MSD enhancer / Msd coil / stator / flywheel / on/off switch / rectifier relay. I have another MSD enhancer that I will install tonight but I don't think its that. I basically lost all last season and this spring, I am at the point of desperation, and am considering offering a reward to whom ever can solve this problem. Thanks, Mike

I have heard nothing but bad things about MSD coils. Also riding with the hood off is an easy way to sink the ski, much better idea to back the trailer and check for leaks that way.

Brand new coil and plug wires, and if I can't ride my ski on the bay with the hood off and not sink it, I should trade it in for a couch

ya and most MSD coils are junk new or used, do a search on here.

And if you want to take that risk be my guest! Not only is it much safer to check with hood off on trailer backed in water, you can also see everything better, and thoroughly inspect it, which I don't care how talented you think you are at riding, You probably cant look at the bottom of the exhaust manifold, waterbox, or midshaft while riding.

Sorry, was not boasting of my riding skills, I failed to mention that I did it both ways on the trailer and riding with hood off. I thought maybe at speed I would find something out. I will go over all wires again tonight and see if I find anything. I read somewhere to check the crank seals ?

Get rid of that msd coil and get a new oem one.

X5 or how ever many people have to you this lol.

or maybe a bad overtemp sensor...you prolly arent running one..

I ran into a simular problem once on a polaris couch...it ended up being the CDI box....probably not your problem if you have a brand new MSD enhancer.

Try closing your plug gap a little too. Helps in salt water with a weak ignition. Ditch that msd coil for an oem Yamaha or Kawasaki 800 coil. I prefer Kawasaki plug boots on a Yamaha also. Easy to cut wires back and re-attach. I cut mine 1-3 times a year dependent on how many hours I put on. You can feel the ignition weakening as the wire burns back once you know what it feels like.

It sounds like everyone agrees it's the coil (even though it's a brand new MSD coil) so tomorrow I'll order a new OEM coil, If that works, you all have to share the reward. Thanks, everyone!
