The latest Windows Phones will have that feature.

You can currently add a mouse and keyboard to Windows Surface tablets, and then use Remote Desktop.

I'm not familar with iPhone Remote Desktop, but I can guarantee it exists. You might have to use a 3rd party app.

Still haven't decided lol, it's hard to. Lenovos ThinkPads look like they could be freeken awesome in terms of capability for the price.

Not sure if you pulled the trigger but seriously recommend a Dell. I went to school for IT, work in IT and every time I try something else I come back to Dell. Tried Lenovo, HP, Compaq, etc and all crap compared to Dell. You have to pick the right series though. The Inspiron series seem to have the weakest structure from my experience, most broken Dells or warranty issues I have come across are from this line. Businesses buy the Latitude series by the truckload for their employees are and very reliable. I used a Latitude all through school and never had it fail on me and it took a beating (floor drops, door bangs, etc). I upgraded from a Latitude to and XPS and I'm really, really happy with it. http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/xps-15-9550-laptop/pd?ref=PD_OC

See if you can get student discount on that to drop the price more. Personally I would go with a 128gb SSD and then buy one of these

Then you can load it with files/movies/music/skiporn. And you can plug it into your school computers easily to transfer. In addition, the cost of upgrading storage capactiy IN a laptop is just stupidly expensive.

*EDIT* This just got posted on slickdeals

Same as above but high quality touchscreen (which means less battery life, but high def screen and 256gb). I have honestly heard that the touchscreens aren't that useful but you're an engineer? I use On-Screen takeoff at my job and would kill for the program to work touchscreen.
