Custom/Hybrid need help from machinist/welder - shorten UMI steering neck

So now I am finally getting close to done with my fixed steering hood and I just realized that the UMI Steering neck is gonna hit the sparkplug boots under the hood :ugh:
Its a WaveRaider UMI steering. the neck is 8 3/8 long INSIDE the hood.

How long is the blaster UMI neck inside the hood? My question is how hard would it be to shorten & reweld the billet steering neck and the Stainless steel inside. The stainless part would be more trouble, because it would have to be ground smooth after shortening.

oops. the last pics is a pic I took driving to lunch today. Its a guy riding a motorized wheelchair pulling a guy in a plastic power wheels kid toy. They were both in their 30s-40s. Classic

Andy, I'm pretty sure, the raider steering is the same size as the b1 under the hood. The top is about 1 inch taller.

Look at getting a GP1200r steering on flebay and just move the welding mark lower , and cut the bottom, it will fit nicely on your fixed steer project, that's what I did lately on ours.
It's much higher on the outside, and very short inside the hood.

Thanks for the info guys! Been working on this project off & on for last 2 years (mostly off). Hate glasswork in summer. Finally got the hood liner done in the last month or so.

Looks like the GP1200r one may work better. The 1200 & 1200r steering necks are slightly different. The GP1200 uses the cheesy plastic piece like OEM Raider steering. I need the neck on the inside to be at least 3-4 inches long to clean the hood liner.
