Need Help Replacing Steering Cable Hull Bushing

Hi all!
I have a SN SJ that I am doing a full (re)build on, and am currently held up with this one part.

How do I remove/replace the steering cable pass-through bushing that is on the bottom side of the ski?

Looking at the parts diagram, the entire bushing assembly is sold as a kit but I'm guessing the lock nut, part 12 is just spinning on the inside of the hull... I can't loosen it any more or tighten it back up.
Any advice on how to get this out, much less a new one installed?!

That's the unfortunate reality I have now accepted... oh well!
Guess I'll do the wider diameter exhaust pipe upgrade while I'm in there

While you are at it put a Kawasaki gland nut and fitting in there and ditch that cheap plastic junk.

I have replaced these without cutting out the whole tray. You can flip the ski over, and cut a square out of the bottom in that area. You will then be able to hold the nut on the inside, and remove the cable holder. Install new, and then glass back up your square. I kept the piece I cut out, and glassed it back in. Pretty easy really.

A cleaner easier way would be to cut that fitting off, stuff a piece of a wooden dowel inside the old fitting , drill a hole through the center of the dowel the use a hole saw to cut around the fitting , then you have a perfect circle you can put the new fitting it and glass it back in with epoxy and cabosil, throw some appliance epoxy on it and Bobs your uncle .i have done similar repairs when Kawi cooling lines break off inside the hull.

What about drilling a 1/8” hole near the fitting with the intent being to hit the spinning nut, then shove a screwdriver or piece of rod in to stop the spinning, then remove fitting, replace, seal hole with whatever you like.

Ps: i might have most of that fitting I can send you salvaged from a donor. If interested, I will take a pic, measure, etc.
