Need help with a ride plate

I have a 2004 SJ currently with an ocean pro ride plate and a protech intake grate. I ride freestyle/freeride on flat water and need more turning ability. I am thinking of getting a Worx 205 intake grate but I’m not too sure about a ride plate. What’s the best setup to have? Thanks!

For freestyle/free ride your best bet is a stock plate and D-cut it.

Let me know if you want to sell your ocean pro once you get something else.

A few things you can do.Where the steering cable end is bolted on the arm of the turning nozzle,redrill the hole closer in to the nozzle.That will give you a little more turning.You can also buy an a/m turnplate (steering) which will have several holes or slot to move the cable end away from the center the turnplate. This gives more throw.
As far as a ride plate goes,buy an a/m ride plate,cut it off right where the end of the ski is (first),then if you still are not satisfied,then do a D cut.Should be several threads explaining this....

Several venders on here sell ride plates.You may even find a used one

Your saying to cut the ride plate to the length of not sticking out of the ski?
 
Do yourself a favor and grab a stock plate! Much better for freestyle/freeriding! I am able to do flat 180's with a stock plate, but not with my A/M plate.

aftermarket turn plate (or do the ste nozzle mod that Sanoman mentioned)
Shorten the pole by 3 inches

Edited Sano's comment about the holes on the turn plate, you want to move the ball outwards, this gives more throw.

Out / further from center on the steering turn plate, or in / closer to pivot on nozzle both would give more throw. Sano was referring to the steering nozzle I think
 
Would I be fine with D cutting my ocean pro or do I need a stock one?

A stock one is cheaper so you can sell an aftermarket one for more if it isn't cut. Might as well cut a cheap stock one than a more expensive aftermarket one but that is your call. Also the aftermarket ones can be deeper and have grooves that change the handling whereas a stock one is flush and smooth that a lot of people like for freeride.

I might have a stock one if you are interested in a swap, just PM me and I'll check the shed.

AM Plates sit a bit deeper causing the nose to push down some. Personally I like the Wamiltons Carbon plate, it does not have to be cut short and works really well.

He was saying in towards the center of turn plate. Turnplate out gives more throw (Push/Pull). In on nozzle gives faster response.

My stock d cut ride plate is cracking, so I bought an ocean pro plate to d cut. It’s a significantly thicker casting and appears stronger, but as mentioned above the deeper / more square rib design of it appears like it will make it more hooked up. A stock one would make more sense to cut, if able to find a cheap one.

Jacob, I have ridden stock plate with NO D cut, and WITH D cut... The D cut just the nose lift out of the water for jumping, and maybe made 180's easier... but there is a slight carving disadvantage for normal free riding. I would go with a stock plate, no cut. That gives you good versatility.
