someone was sayin somthing about a waterbox too? im retarded when it comes to jetskis ive spent my whole lfe on motorcycles
Here's a crash course in waterboxes for you.
The waterbox is the equivalent of the muffler. It retains water and requires the exhaust gas to travel through the water before exiting the ski. This causes the sound to be damped. It works the same as the fiberglass muffler packing on your motorcycle.
As you know, motor are air pumps. The more air they move, the more power they make. The exhaust gases must travel through baffels and smaller diameter openings in the waterbox. This restricts the sound, but also restricts the airflow. Aftermarket waterboxes allow the gases to flow more freely, thus improving power, especially in the low end. However, just like taking your muffler off to run straight pipes, this increase in airflow comes with a very large increase in sound.
The improvement of airflow vs in the increase in sound is disproportional. You will gain power at a MUCH lower rate than you will incease in sound. This is a crude example, but it will make the point. A 10% increase in power may cause a 100% increase in sound. Too much sound and you will not only hinder our sport by creating additional negitive feelings towards us, but you my also be facing fines.
There are some waterboxes that improve airflow with minimal increases in sound. There are aftermarket 650 waterboxes you may purchase that imporve performance with reasonable increases in sound, but those increases in performance will be minimal compared to the increase in sound.
You could also get a waterbox for a superjet, or other ski that is a stock design but has larger openings in the baffels.
