Super Jet Need some advice for the girl's ski

Ok so after being with her for almost a year, and seeing that she loves to ride. I have the first SN superjet I had ever learned on that I am going to build for her. As of now the ski sits with the white gel coat, which i intend to keep because it is in really good condition, purple turf, white handle pole pad, black odi locking grips, B-pipe, solas impeller, ride plate yada yada yada. I will be adding a cold fusion quick steer and black 0 degree bars.

She loves pink and I think the pink will really pop off the white. I was thinking to do the handle pole pad, tray, possibly the nose pink or pink marble along with pink CF numbers in a Batman Forever font and pink grips. The side rails have the black plastic pieces and are in good condition so I think I will be leaving those as well. Now she is not afraid to try and throw the ski around so should I do holds or straps? Thinking straps because i am a bit budgeted.

I am open to suggestions so please feel free to comment.

Thanks,

Shane

I'd just get her on the water. Do mods over the winter. Let her enjoy it now since its so late in the year. Just an opinion. Plus the both if you will have time to raise money for mods fur when winter comes around.

Not really looking to do mods just turf and stuff to make it unique to her. It needs CF numbers and turf pretty bad and if I am going to spend the money I might as well do it right the first time. But looking at hydroturf's website it is saying that pink fades and there is not a pink marble . Anyone know how fast the pink fades?

I'd do holds.
As far as turf goes I was at lake havasu this weekend and i saw a similar setup to what you described. Boyfriend and girlfriend have skis. The girl was on a white rn with some teal or aqua turf and it had some pink stickers/ numbers. I really liked how the ski looked. I'd use the aqua turf if it will last longer.

Will that ski be too much power for her? My girlfriend rides a mostly stock sn. When she rides my rn she complains "it hits too hard" and "its too fast" I'm not sure if my GF is a weenie or if it really is that fast. But you might not have that problem.

Either way its cool that your GF wants to ride with you.
Good luck on your build.

Yeah she actually started on this ski with how it is set up and it's all bottom end. She LOVES IT!! First day on the water she was doing full throttle passes and going into the turns pretty quick. The girl is a National Championship softball player and just has no fear at all. She is going to start riding surf so that is why I am thinking to put holds or straps in at this time.

If I have learned one thing from riding with my spouse, it's that you should ask her what she wants and do only that.

When my wife started riding she made one thing clear; I was not to change anything unless she approves it first. She loved the ski exactly how I built it originally and didn't want a single thing changed.
I have gone against her on a couple occasions now and it has caused a stir every time and I have had to revert back to the way it was. The 140 Mag pump was the only change that she let me get away and it still gets brought up from time to time. She admits the added hookup is better than the OEM pump but I am still trying to match a 140 impeller to the same feel of the 144 Hooker .

She is really good about telling me what she wants so I learned to listen and trust her judgement. If I think that she needs something or would prefer a change, I can only suggest it and show her examples and then support her decision.

I know we all get mod happy but most women respond differently than men so we have to approach it differently I can provide a list of friends who used to enjoy riding with their wives and they all say that it ended when they started modding their spouses rides. I am hoping to keep my spouse interested and riding for many more years so I am learning from others mistakes.

Hmm never thought of it that way. Thanks for the suggestion. I know she will like the pink black and white so maybe I will stick with that and leave the holds for later when she starts getting more comfortable with the ski or she asks for them. :)

You hit that right on the head. It's exactly what my wife and I went through. I thought I was "upgrading" her, she calls it "changing things". I've been asked to put in a change order before I proceed with any work, lol.

I'd do holds.

Whoa sir, I just think your ski is to pipey and hits to hard to quick. I want a faster ski just not one that rips my arms off.

You can get some footholds for $60 I think somewhere on here can't remember who builds them but they have good reviews.

I think the white with pink turf will look good.

My wife wanted purple on her RN (my old RN) so I did purple turf as you know. It's not exactly what she wants, but it looks kinda 'girly' without being pink (she hates pink).

Turfing the rails and the tray/ gunnies changes the entire look of a ski.

If it were me, i'd paint it. But I like to paint.

You should be asking her this. Take a picture of the ski. Print it out. Trace the basic outline onto a piece of paper. Give her a pack of colored pencils and tell her you will do you best to make it happen. Just make sure she knows what is within your capability.

If you go with 2-tone turf, do the bottom of the tray where you stand a solid color, and do the sides and rails in the 2-tone. The 2-tone doesn't hold up as well against that much abuse.

I bought my wife a GP1200. She loves it. I offered to buy her anything she wants, but she wants the GP1200. I am looking to buy her a SXR, but based on the conversation, it would seem she's not as excited about the idea as I am.

If you were asking about your son, I would tell you to push him to go harder than the last time every time. Thing is, you're lucky to have a lady that participates and is willing to spend time with you doing what you like. Don't make it a chore for her because she is only there to spend time and to foster your dreams. It's rare to find a lady like that.

I understand you are not married or engaged, and it's only been a year, so you don't want to invest too much. Never the less, you can still ask her what she wants, and provide to her what is in your means.

I knew I was going to marry Lisa early. She received a Z250 atv in her name after 8 months for Christmas. I know she could be better on a 300ex, but learning the clutch would be a chore for her, and if it's not fun, she wont ride. She got the GP1200 just after a year. She can follow me into the big surf. She could be sporty on a SXR, but I would have to leave her behind in the good surf. This was a risk, but it was an investment into our relationship that I am glad I made. We built it early on and she understands how important it is to me.

Anyway, I'm just rambling now... Just remember her reason for being in the sport is most likely very different than yours. Don't push her to be more like you, just enjoy the company.

I like vinyl. You can wrap a ski for less than $100 if you do it yourself and don't mess up. The 3D (textured) carbon fiber patterns do a great job of hiding imperfections and come in a bunch of colors.

Wow loving the feed back. So i called her and told her what I had in mind. She picked out the batman style lettering and is super excited about the pink. But like most of you are saying she just wants to ride so she said to tinker with it in the winter since i am currently getting into a new career.

Thanks for all the feedback guys....and girl ;)

Vumad, after seeing you post about you and your girl and your journey I look at my relationship and I am striving for it to turn out the way yours has. She loves the sport of softball and has gotten me into it now playing 3 nights a week and I love to ride and do water sports which she has taken a liking in and is always itching to ride just as bad as me now haha.

http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/134178-My-wife-is-awesome!

I hope you're as fortunate as I am. I have made mistakes along the way, and fortunately for me, I had learned a lot of good lessons from them by the time I met Lisa at 26. 28 now and we've had a great relationship.

One of Lisa's favorites is when I turn on the radio, drag her to the living room and we dance through a song. Remember, brownie points are earned one at a time, and spent 10 at a time, don't ever let the balance go negative. You spend a few every time she goes on the skis. She is sharing what you like, be sure to return the favor.

I think you should just returf to suit her cosmetic needs and add a back foot strap. That way she can lock in for jumping and still move her front foot around to adjust. That way you can do it in a day or two and not lose any water time. Very cool you have a girl that wants to ride!
