Hi I have been thinking of making my own hull and or taking a super jet splitting the decks and making a hull out of it I wanna make some thing good for surf and flat water and also good for chasing boat waves I want to be short but also stable and something anyone can jump on and ride. Any advise ideas or anything are more then welcome it's more for something I wanna do if it turns out good and people like how it handles and ride I may sell a few but for now it's a idea and sounds good on paper lol

Good at surf, flatwater, chasing boats? That's like having a truck that can haul 22,000 pounds, runs an 8 second quarter mile and is also a sports car at the same time.

Know the jack of all trades is a master of none.

The closest solution to you goal is to make a hull that is shortened but uses an interchangeable full sized ride plate. Look at the aquabot, tom21s fxt or some of the other hulls that use a ride plate that changes the length of the entire hull.

I shortened my x2 by 2 inches for better surf but put in inserts for remove able hull extensions for racing. Much more simple than a full interchangeable bottom.

I say go for it! All those things aren't really possible to have in a single ski but there is nothing wrong with building something cool and see what you come up with. Sounds like if you were to reshaped the appearance of a sj top deck how you like it and potentially not mess with the bottom deck (possably take a few inchs off the back depending on your size) and did it the top and bottom decks in carbon fiber that would suit you best. Obviously surf and chasing boat are going to require a more of a standard length ski but flat water freestyle you would want something pretty short. So that is one of the largest issues right there. Then with the carbon fiber hopefully it will be a little lighter and stronger than a sj if you do it all right. Just keep in mind all the time and money you spend on this, you could buy a aftermarket hull. But if you think it would be a lot cooler having something you can say you build your self, and time and money isn't a issue, I would give it a shot.

I think it would be a sweet ski if it came out right all of them hulls are so pricey and I understand why time labor. And cost for all the carbons and ect but if I make one that I like and my buddy's enjoy I want to bring it to comps and see how pro riders like it and if they do I may start making some

I feel like I have read this exact thread at least 8 times already in the past. It usually turns into a "hull build thread" a few people get super excited for nothing, then it dies off, the project gathers an inch of dust, thread disappears.... I think we all get the point.

In reality, it would be cheaper to spend the time working a second one job and just buy a proven hull than it would be to attempt building your own. Considering the most R&D mentioned in this thread is copying a sj and shortening it, it will probably be far from spectacular. Just my 1.6 cents (Canadian exchange rate sucks so I can't give 2)

Might not be worth it and you never know it might be no harm in trying if you have the mind set might as well try it right? Shouldint hurt anything but my wallet but atlest I would try never know might end up being a crap hull or a super nice hull
