Super Jet Need some help Backfire.

Not sure what cone filters you are talking about.
Fuel Pickup in the tank was checked and cleaned and a new rubber hose added for the RES pickup.
All new OEM fuel lines from JM, new OEM fuel selector, New OEM fuel filter/water separator. NEw OEM molded pulse line and carb connection hose.
New Mikuni fuel pump parts, internal screen finger filters and needles and seats.

If you stab the throttle you get a backfire out the exhaust but if you try to increase the rpm from idle slowly you get the cough out the intake.

My friend has his engine pulled for a new top end so I am going to try to get his carbs on Sunday and try them. From there I guess I will start pulling his stator and electrical but I really don't want to start butchering his and buying new gaskets for both of us if I can avoid it.

Those internal screen filters, but I see you’ve done them...

Yeah it sucks sometimes.... I feel for ya....

Well after some thinking, I think rather than messing with my friends engine and electronics I am just going to pull all the electronics off my 61X SN including the stator and flywheel. Although I hate messing with a perfectly good ski I think it is going to be the easiest and cheapest way to eliminate all the electronic variables at the cost of one flywheel cover gasket.
If that doesn't fix anything I will try his carbs then move onto my reeds.

I've been using loctite anaerobic sealer on the cover instead buying new gaskets with no issues. Sank entire ski underwater for 15 minutes. When I pulled the cover to swap ignitions to zeel, it was still bone dry behind the cover. Just something to consider cause I'm with you on buying extra gaskets it adds up Haha

I really like that idea and use the loctite 518 on a bunch of my Seadoo stuff. I bought one of the WorldClass flywheel cover gaskets and even with 1211 on both sides it tore into pieces and didn’t seem like the same quality as OEM so not going that route again.

I can get some after fire If I rev the engine when its very cold. The idle mixture is easy to set on the trailer. Open the bottom screws until the idle rpm settles down, let the engine warm up and see if it still pops.

All electrical parts pulled from the ol’ SN.

Hopefully I’ll have time on Saturday to give them a try.

I don't want to leave a thread unfinished but I just don't know.....
Last night I started swapping all my original 62T parts back in one by one to find the bad part.
61X box with 62T stator = starts and runs fine.
61X box with 62T stator and CDI = runs fine
61x Box with 62T stator, CDI and coil = runs fine.

Switch back to all the origional 62T box and electrical components that caused issues = runs fine.

Yeah that’s common for electrical parts to be on cuff of failure yet work at times or to fail intermittently, as iam sure your already aware.....

You’ve verified it wasn’t the cdi already ... that leaves the flywheel and stator and ebox....

Of those the flywheel is unlikely,

Connections within the box possibly ? You’ve been messing with them and would probably seen an isssie by now.

Stator, is most likely suspect... in my opinion......

You’ve done a lot already, kinda gotta take your best guess at some point, I know it sucks but so does getting stranded....

You could also test ride it at the lake, close to shore and see how it’s responding, it may fail again then or in an outing or 2
When the parts get warm....

I had an intermitant no crank that would go away during my diag.... nothing I could isolate :(

Ran it on a all day ride, started failing again but could get to start by pushing the start button at odd angles..... ended up breaking down, luckily near the boat ramp and had to be towed.....

Test now showed soliniold stuck open, and no signal from start stop switch.... jumping soliniod unstick it and it now worked manually but start stop no signal, isolated further to the laynyard switch was open....

So what do I do ? Only the start stop harness or a soliniod too ?

I elected to do both, a no crank issue in the surf equals Davies locker lol

Hey are you up to ride Pismo Saturday AM ? My buddy canceled on me.... not sure what ski you have that’s ready or any.
Sounds like not a good time ?

Correct, at this point I'm not sure as the stator and CDI worked fine with the 61X box and now works fine with the 62T box so there isn't a single smoking gun. It also ran bad originally with a known good 6M6 CDI so I really don't think it's the CDI. At this point I am going to have to just try and ride it but might not get a chance until spring. Test ride will be at Lopez lake with someone else if I need a tow and also breaking in the new engine.

I would love to ride Pismo but this weekend we are trying to get ready for an annual thanksgiving off road ride.

Agreed, nothing wrong with waiting either, that’s what I had to do too.....

Sweet have a good thanksgiving and stay safe :)
