Need some help SJ wont start

Two days ago i was out on the ski 94SN and the motor just cuts out with no warning and dies but it would fire back up. Then the last time it wouldnt fire up at all so i let it sit for an hour or so and it starts. So i take it out yesterday and it doesnt stall but has a lack of power on top end. Today i have no spark at all. So my question is to you guys with knowlegde on these motors where should i begin to look? I figure i could save some time by asking if someone on here has had a similiar problem.

I'd start with the plug wires - you could have a break. Pull the wire out of the spark plug cap and cut back an inch or so. You may have to go back further to get to good wire - I just had to take more than 2" off my '03 to get to good wire!

That's as good a place to start as any.

Alright well i got the ski running again it was good for a couple days then started acting up again. It isnt dying right now but as i ride it the hotter it gets it looses power. To the point where it just bogs and im doing about 15mph wide open. Here is the list of things ive done since it started.
1. checked stop start switch and wires
2. changed the fuel filter
3. changed plug boots and cut back wires
I think it may be the cdi are they known for going bad? Im not planning on putting a stock one back inn. Which brand should i go with and the cheapest places to buy from.

Does it lose power suddenly, or gradually? How hot is the motor? I'm just wondering whether it's overheating - that would explain the 15mph @ WOT

It starts to do it when the motor gets hot. It seems to act up a day or two after its been subed and doing fountains.

Yeah its broke for sure,,,how much ya want?? and where ya at???

Id check compression, check for water in the fuel/carbs. Maybe put a inline spark tester on it and tap it to the hood and go ride, watch it to see if it looses spark.

Remove the overheat sensor from the head and secure it with a cable tie so that it won't flop around. If it is failing it might be sending a false signal to the CDI to go into limp mode. Only do this if you think that the engine is not really getting too hot. You might have to open the E-box and disconnect the pink/black wire for it if it is going south. Other causes could be a flakey stop switch becoming partially enabled when wet or from vibration. Disconnect the white/black wire connector to test this theory. You will have to turn the idle down so the ski will shut off. Worst case you could have a bad coil,CDI, or stator. Check all wiring, ground to the E-box, etc. Try the easy stuff first. Good luck:banghead:

Keefer i tried what you suggested and it still does it. I think it is the cdi i have a MSD coming and hopefully that fixes it. Ill report back once i try the other cdi.

It loses power gradually.

With the gradual loss of power, I would look to things that might cause a gradual loss of power. First do a compression check. Next do a leak down test. Finally check fuel quality and ensure that there is oil in the fuel. It is extremely rare for an electrical problem to have a gradual escalating loss of power. Also check to see how hot the water is coming out of the pisser.
