I made the same mistake last year with the ProX pistons. My first day on the water was really choppy (2 ft swells) so I did a couple of quick runs at WOT to get up over the chop and see how it was running. So not good. 2 bores in 1 week is pricey. I stuck with the wiseco's though. Flatwater for tuning only!!

My machine idles on the trailer now for at least a minute before I even undo the front strap.

For one thing, I hope it's in the water while you do this - for your engine's sake.

However, for YOUR sake, I hope you're doing this anywhere but in the water at the ramp, or I will personally come strangle you. :soapbox:

:haha:

Seriously. Don't block the ramp.

so this brings me back to....

"i followed the wiseco manual.... wich says....

1. Use the same gas/oil mixture during break-in as you normally use.
2. Allow 15-20 minutes for break-in of new pistons and/or rings."

i think wiseco needs to hook me up with a free engine without going to court

carbs were already tunned for a riva free ride pipe, idling were fine, at WOT they were fine, sparks were brownish, perfect tune.

Suing Wiseco

30 seconds at WOT and it blew, so you know they were perfect at WOT based on 30 seconds?

this is really pathetic if it's true....

not to dark, not to light, brownish, with a perfect idle and super fast WOT duh!!

I need new pistons and maybe a bore, can possibly get away with a hone, so i have 3 options, any suggestions, right now 82mm bore

1.buy same size 82mm pistons, hone cylinder
2.buy 82.5 proX since wiseco doesnt make 82.5 and bore
3.buy stock bore cylinder and start all over with a .25 bore

Option 2, with the same 0.045- 0.050 clearance and you should be good to go.
Spend the time to run in properly and make sure carbs are dialed in before any WOT runs.

James

correction, i believe wiseco might make 82.5 for the 701,... but i know pro x makes 82.5 for a 701 for sure... but is 82.5 bore to much? 83mm is about the max before resleeving?

So it was running great, and then it quit. What was your compression, and what gas did you run? Are you 100% sure the cooling was working right?

If your plugs look good after all this, I'd like to see the pistons. Pull the head and let us know what you find.

And FYI, carb setups that are slightly lean can indeed have absolutely great topend. Problem is, you run it WOT because it runs so great. Because the mix is a tad lean, it runs hotter than normal. Couple that with narrow squish and perhaps subpar gas for whatever compression you run, and there goes your topend.

So, I understand that it was running great. What I am asking is, did you do anything at all to tune the carbs, since this new topend?

You can get 82.5 and 83 from Pro-X, and you can go to 84. I wouldn't go higher than that.
