need some help with wrist cramps

alright this may sound a little weird. the last few months since i've not had a ski i've been pushing pretty hard on dirt bikes. the more i ride and train so i can keep the pace up the worst my wrist cramps are. i've got my own little motocross track i practice one once or twice a week. at the beginning of the year i could push hard 9-10 laps before getting tired. over the last few months i've lost the amount of time i can push before my wrists cramp. the weekend before last i barely could do two laps. i just don't understand what's going on. i'm even losing range of motion in both hands. anybody ever heard of something like this?

Todays diet is deficient in a good sources of Omega 3's which our bodies require to reduce inflammation while being toxic in omegas 6 and 9 which aid in inflammation.

On top of supplementing nutrient deficiencies, you should also look into either physical therapy or Chiropractic adjustments of the shoulders. I few of my racing buds suffered from severe arm pump, even after surgery, until they discovered sports therapy. The constant jarring was causing inflamation in the shoulder joints that was putting pressure on the nerves and causing the pump. You may have to shop around for the proper doc though as it's not necessarily all that common of a treatment. Palmer grads are the best at adjusting extremities.

thanks for the input. i hate banana's btw :p i've been to the chiropractor 3 or 4 times now. they pull and yank on me, hook my wrists up to some kind of high intensity vibrator and finish me off with a laser treatment and massage. still the same thing though. i'll try adding some supplements and see how that works out. i use to strecth a lot. i'm a 260ish in weight and only 6ft, but i can kick 6'8" without my other foot leaving the gound. maybe i'll talk to some personal trainers and see if they've got some ideas to. thanks for the help!

i wish it was masterbation. right now i've got a hard time holding on to that :(

On a side note; make sure you use clothing that does not restrict blood flow. I guess you already made sure about this, but I mention it anyway. Try experimenting with handlebar width and adjustments as well. Thinner or thicker grips, throttle lever placement might add to your problems.

Best move I ever made after breaking my wrist was ergonomically correct bars. Hold two sticks out in your hands like you are riding and look at their orientation.

i wear the normal motox crap. nice and loose. my controls are where i like them. it's a ktm so the clutch and brake are easy one finger pull. crab, you aren't the only person who does that! i've got the renthal bars i like to. cr high. having the right bars makes a world of a difference. thanks for the input guys!!!

That progression does not sound good, you should slack off and give it time to heal for a while. I did something unknown to my left arm a few months ago attempting to assist my grandmother with transferring. I tried pushing through the pain during the following weeks, but that did not work, so I slacked up a bit which did wonders!

Just when all seemed healed, I made one wrong extreme move, and now it is back with an excruciating vengeance, shooting all the way down to my wrist. I have started using wet heat therapy (microwave and hand towel) combined with self-rolfing techniques (you will probably find YouTube Vids on it)…did the same with severe leg cramps (behind the knees) when younger (although it wasn’t called rolfing back then). Maybe it will work for you too.

My wrists act up alot from motocross in spring and fall to jumping waves in the ocean in summer,Like was said before Alot will come out of adjusting ,even cutting bars down or getting wider bars, for me its the tilt of the bars,if there too low .all the stress,or impacts are directed to your wrists, they have fatter bars and grips too..hope you find something that works! Keep trying til you do..

Thanks, trust me, this works for these types of things (and you will pay later in life if you do not address the matter now). We basically started doing it when I was around eight years old I guess. Initially (when injured) you have to set it up as at least a daily regimen. I do the wet heat therapy directly prior to the rolfing, but later if I notice increased inflammation/pain, then I know I hit something wrong or too intensely and switch to ice and ibp, then back again. Def is much easier with another person at the spa or in-house no doubt, but immediate gratification is my preference these days, lol. Best way to describe it is that it is like a cross between yoga and deep-tissue massage. I suddenly hate this thread! :toothache:

Eddie (LBE) posted up a thread with some form of heat yoga a long time ago…think it was in this section so maybe do a search. I haven’t tried it…was planning on it…still may once healed. The room is temp controlled (extreme). It makes total sense, and I recall he was swearing by it (for more than one reason ).

I've had some serious forearm cramps a few years ago from 10 years of being an auto tech. After I switched careers, I still had symptoms for another couple years. I am about 70% over it. What really helped is deep tissue massage. My muscles were all fused together and rubbery feeling. She had to get in there and break up that muscle tissue.

In the mean time, make sure you are properly hydrated. No sodas, energy drinks, or alcohol before or during riding. Just water, maybe a little sports drink, but mostly water and lots of it. Plus all of the good advise above.

Yeah i try to drink at least a gallon the night before. I through one 32 ounce gatorade in a cool full of waters for the last half of riding. Been seeing a theropist and we will see results soon i hope!

Here is some background info on rolfing, although it really does not show much regarding various techniques. I found it is best when the therapist combines stretching as the rolfing is taking place (and wet heat, for all releases faster).

and here is one for the wrists…ha ha!

this last one shows a tool being utilized during self-rofling (but he is doing it waaaaaaaaay too fast and needs to wax his hairy self :eek5:). You can make a tool out of most anything around the house (tennis ball, door knob, whatever), but some things def work better than others).

There is also a local Chinese doctor who makes others utilizing acupuncture appear incompetent (medical degree in Chinese Medicine). He begins with the tens muscle stimulator, but instead of attaching the pads directly to your skin, he attaches to each needle he uses in order to achieve deeper penetration (it works), followed up by Chinese massage for improved circulation and a quick, miner adjustment if necessary. You can’t get right up and drive directly afterwards, because you are in a relaxed daze and light-headed.

By saying cramps are you talking about a forearm pump? If so there is a topical cream that a lot of guys who ride motocross use. I also have a few buddies that went pro who have opted for the surgery to reduce or eliminate this problem.

It has a little to do with everything mentioned in this thread, in the end your grabbing a bar and hanging on for dear life.
