Super Jet Need to change my hydroturf order...need advice.

I went and put on wrestling shoes and put old pieces of turf on the bottom of the hold, did some measurements, and a little over an inch of the old turf makes the hold snug.
Turf itself is about 5mm thick, so then I'd only have around 15mm of underpad to use in the holds. I need some pad on the inside top of the holds too, so I don't think 25mm pad is ideal anymore.
Is really thick pad crucial in the tray?
If I use 25mm pad, it won't do any good for the footholds, cause I'll have to sand it down so much.
Unless thick pad is super important in the tray(besides inside the footholds), I'm thinking about doing 9mm plush in the holds and the whole tray.

I could also buy 18mm plush and cut it in half for the footholds, and have it thick in the tray. I've seen 25mm pad cut in half.
Could use some advice, cuz I'm ordering today.

My 25mm pad just came in yesterday. I put it on the ground and jumped around on it and its super cushy.

I ride with the Cleveland Crew and MADMAT told me whatever I do with padding to MAKE SURE the part of the hold that you brace your ankles against has thick padding because a bad landing on a big air will bruise you up badly and could possibly ruin your season.

In your situation I'd probably order the 25mm and cut it in half lengthwise. The stuff seems very easy to cut and sand however you want. That way you get twice the pad too.

So yeah see if you can use the full 25mm around your ankles and thinner pieces inside the hold and whatever you want on the tray.

I could just double up on the thinner padding in those places, but you think it'd be worthwhile to stick with thick pad in the tray even though I'll have to thin it up in the holds?
I appreciate the advice alot!
Thanks.

I'm not sure to be honest with you...this is my first time doing footholds and turfing too.

You said you are riding flatwater right? I bet the thinner padding all over would do fine. I ride with guys who only have 8mm pad and they ride flat to 10+ footers and they like it.

IMHO, having done it both ways, putting thinner padding into any area in the footholds is the wrong move. That's where you want plush and thick padding. In my experience, footholds are best super soft but kind of tight to where you have to actively kick into them. But they will hold your feet secure without hurting them.

Do what you want, but that's my experience.

I do realize that thick padding in the holds is most important.
I'm going to thicken up my footholds with padding as much as I can. Since my holds don't accept a ton of padding, I don't know if I should get 9mm plush and fill the holds+ the whole tray with that, or if I should get 18mm plush and cut/fit it into the holds, and then lay the rest of the 18mm in the tray..
Basically all I want to know is if I should go through cutting parts of the 18mm in half/different thicknesses and shaping them for the footholds and then laying down 18mm outside of the footholds, Or if I should just order 9mm plush and put it in both the holds and the tray and call it done.
Is 18mm in the tray that much more beneficial..

And mthomps, it probably would be fine but I'm just not sure ahh!
But really, if I'm getting big air and flat land, my feet are going to be most likely in the holds, so that's where the padding really matters.
I never thought choosing underpad would be this stressful! :banghead:

I just called hydroturf and they said molded b-stock just got in today. It's still shrink wrapped on the pallete. They said they will be able to ship between monday and wednsday next week.

I hear ya man I've been researching for 6 months all things fiberglass, footholds/straps, and superjets. I'd buy the 18mm and just see what you can do with it. If anything at least you'll know your tray is a marshmellow even if you have to sand a lot off for the holds. Just make sure on the outside of the holds around your ankles you pad it up well. Make the inside as tight as you can too like Matt_E said.

Yeah, the research pays off though! I believe I'll be ordering the 18mm and experimenting with it! ! A super cushy tray can't be a bad thing, right? Haha.
