I want to start looking for some good surf riding spots around Charleston, SC.

Commuting to Savannah and Jacksonville every weekend is going to get pricey and time consuming.

How about you Myrtle beach guys? You must know this area pretty good. Kennay?

Travis (Tbaer) and Jordan (craig568) ride in the river around Beaufort but they haven't mentioned any surf. We all met down in Savannah and broke our surf "cherries" together.

Places like Tybee Island and Hilton head are so uptight that I wasn't even allowed to drive certain places with my ski in the back of the truck. I was going to check out a lighthouse on Tybee island and was denied entrance to the park.

I think we are all spoiled by places like Huguenot and Daytona, where we can park on the beach.

That's some BS... I'm sure there are little outta the way places around there. When I lived in beaufort, my mom's neighbor has a boat and we would go out and just cruise out the intercoastal to the open water. There were a few deserted beaches but I have no clue how to get to them by car, one spot had some pretty good surf, but I don't think it is land accessible. This makes me want to go look at google earth brb. lol

Actually it is them keeping us from harassing the locals. lol

Stupid thing is, the wind is usually so loud you wouldn't hear a ski anyway and people like watching us ride.

I wonder what the rules are at Hunting Island, and near there.

No answer on the phone and nowhere on the net is there anything on beach rules etc..

When I lived there, we'd ride Folly Beach some. We'd put in on the Folly River and cruise around the south side of the island to the beach. It's normally just soupy though, not a lot of fun but does make you a better rider real quick---that's where I learned to ride on a stock 440.

I imagine the rules have changed though, that was in 91-92.

I've lived in charleston my whole life, follybeach last least pasted a law that prevents you from launching you ski from the BEACH but they still allow the rental skis too... HOW SCREWED UP IS THAT!! their is a few places on island palms, but you need a boat to refuel.

They may allow rentals because he operates a business and carries liability insurance, and he has to follow their rules in order to continue operating. Where does he rent them typically? I wouldn't mind talking to him as he probably knows better than anyone what the rules are.

Why do you need a boat to refuel? Because you can't pull up on the beach and refuel? I usually use the beach cart to pull my skis up and refuel away from the water.

Isle of Palms' mayor back in the early 90's passed some ordinances that pretty much blocked all jetski riding around the place. You could ride in the intracoastal past it, but that was about it.

I dont know all the laws or rules but it sounds alot like what is listed about north myrtle beach, we do alot of lake riding, normally has some friends out with their wake boat to throw us a chop take pics, video, things like that.... we have a good time but in the cannal some many couch riders, riding like fools zipping across, not paying attention to what they are doing... we stay of the main traffic

What lake do you guys ride? I'm looking for a nice spot to get my g/f into riding again. She hasn't been on a ski for about 6 yrs and I didn't want to start her out in surf.

Is there quite a few standups that ride the lakes or mostly couches? I have a GSXL and an SXR so lake riding still interests me as well.

It would be great to ride the lake a couple times a month and hit some surf at least one weekend a month.
