'Negative' in hull descriprions

I have been reading through a ton of posts, and in the 'ski for sale ' section, and i always see A/M hulls described as a -5, -1, etc... what does this mean? That it is shortened by 5 inches? Im new to this, so forgive my ignorance lol.

you are the reason
I used to always wonder that question. It's referred to in superfreak skis a lot. Other am hull builders redesign the whole platform and don't refer to negative so much. Negative can be referred too cutting off rear or cutting the middle out, or chopping front and rockering.

Yes, the hull has been shortened from the original design length in inches.
most hull manufactures sell just one length but their are a few like thrust that sells the same hull in diff lengths for diff ride applications!
The "negative" refers to how much shorter it is than a yamaha superjet hull. They are built that way on purpose from the builder but you can always cut more yourself if you are handy with composites.

I always thoughtit was compared to a stock superjet since most plugs start as superjets. Is a -4 freak 4 inches shorter than a superjet or the longest available freek?

I don't think so, but I could be wrong, was long ago when I talked to Tem about it. Now whether it is shorter from firewall back or over all, I don't know. None of this really matters, they all are way better than a SJ.
