650/X-2 Neutral gear????

Just finished rebuilding an sx650 pump for my newly built flatdeck... Well I tried it out today and it seams to have found neutral? It will ideal a bit than all of a sudden it's like someone puts it in gear! Than it will go and plane and pop back into "neutral"?? What gives.???!! Impeller not in bad shape, but I did not put in two steel fender washers that separated impeller from bearing seals in pump. I thought these were rigged parts so didn't include them in rebuild.... Do people shim impellers to the drive shaft splines?

I'm guessing your driveshaft is losing its splines.

Ill have to take a look at it and reply back, I got a spare. Ever seen the shims? It's a solas impeller.

The shims are for getting better tolerance between the impeller and the wear ring.

Bet your prop splines are screwed

Is it a manual or automatic transmission?

Slipping the clutch.... pop it faster but whatch out for the power band will do a wheelies

Seal it up.
If the pump suck air it's like neutral and not going or need help to get going.
Silicon all the way around the pump and the front part of the ride plate.

Air leak into the pump. When you're at low speed, the pump cavity above the rideplate is filled with water but it then empties out and you start sucking that air past the pump seal and through the pump.

Make sure it's sealed properly.

Shifter linkage wasn't adjusted right and needed half a quart of ATF
