Man injured in jet ski accident

Sunday, 06 December 2009 22:37
A 39-year-old man suffered serious head injuries in a jet ski accident at Point Nepean about 5.00 pm

The man was about 2 kilometres off shore near Corsairs Rocks when he was attempting to perform a backflip while on the jetski.

He lost control and fell from the craft suffering a serious head injury when he was apparently struck by the jet ski.

The man lost consciousness but was recovered from the water by a nearby boat.

He regained consciousness and was taken back to the Sorrento boat ramp and after being treated by ambulance officers was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital.

Damn, hope he gets better.

I wonder if he was wearing a helmet.
This happened to me a few months ago, I fell out at the apex of the flip and went down right under the ski. It hit me right on the noggin', but I was wearing a helmet.

It still gave me a fat headache that lasted for hours.

The boat was probably his buddy... It'd be highly coincidental that he was rescued by a nearby boat 1.2 miles off shore in December and was rescured before drowning while unconscious.

The point is never let go when rippin BF's or going big. Sometimes you get ripped off & theres no way to stay with the ski but man I hate seeing a ski in the air without the pilot.

Hope he gets better soon!

Always wear head protection!!!

Head injuries are no joke.
I have no doubt that had I not been wearing a helmet, I would have sustained a serious skull fracture.

Good point, but if that’s the case it sucks the report doesn’t credit another jetskier for the rescue.
I hope the guy gets well soon as well.

Just an update, it was not fatal but he is still in hospital, he was rining with some mates, none of them had helmets, (they all went to buy some after) they pulled him from the water and got a passing boat to take him back in.

Dont know the guy but nic Barton rode with him once, just a new guy trying new things, never ride alone when doing tricks and always wear a helmet, i always do
cheers

even with a helmet, if the ski hits ya on the head, it would probably tweak/bend/break your neck pretty good. sure its not too hard to get paralyzed. i know the mx guys also wear major neck protection with their helmets, never seen jetski guys do it though.

Pretty sure Pierre wore one for the double flip. I hope he recovers well. Any helmet on your noodle is better than nothing.

yeah its doesnt take much to tweak a neck! with me racing mx for the past 5 years, i have seen all too much of that. actually i know a kid now that isnt more than 16-17 and hes paralyzed
from the waist down i think. but yes in the mx world we have a new device called the leatte brace(said "lee-at")
that prevents the neck from bending too far in any direction. fairly simple, but not sure how much it would help with a jet ski landing on you. but in all seriousness, i hate to hear things like this, especially to people just out having a good time. hope he gets well soon, and has a full recovery. and to all reading this, be safe and wear a helmet from now on. id hate to hear any more stories like this
