You may not know but many of the XS riders and other flatwater riders use molded cleat shoes to stay locked in.Are those cleats the kind that are harder plastic or composite base? If so you may not like them as they really are only good for grass.
Ice skates on most anything else.
Yeah definitely grind the cleats down, they are approximately 1/2 inch long now.I used them from football and they gave me great ankle Suport if u were to grind the cleats down they might be great

What does your turf look like...?Update: I rode with these football shoes today and they keep you secure in the footholds like Magic ! Absolute necessity for flatwater riding if you are doing 180 hop flips to prevent flying out of the holds and getting injured. I ground the cleats down as shown in this pic.View attachment 311211
I have diamond turf, it looks fine. The cleats are rubber and work well with the turf. Besides I would rather eventually change turf in holds than bandaids.What does your turf look like...?
