Super Jet New Hooker Don't Fit

Location

Searched around on here and didn't find any info that really could help me out.
But here's the low down, doing a build on my boat "Rebirth of the Gunniess Boat" and I purchased a new hooker 9/15 to compliment the new motor and to get some more hookup. However pulled the pump off yesterday and pulled prop to find a nice Skat Trak custom pitched 9/18 (I believe, can double check later)...but this leads to issue number one, Do I run Skat Trak and return Hooker?

Issue number to however is that new Hooker DOES NOT FIT the housing with wear ring installed, its a metal wear and I even tried opening it up to fit the new prop with no success. How does Skat Trac fit but not Hooker?
Also there really isn't all the much meat left in the wear ring to continue grinding it to fit....Did SuperJets ever have goofy pumps for some years?
Or could I have the wrong Hooker?

(new prop is about 2 thousandths to big so it isn't off by much)

JCC568 took prop with him yesterday to see if it fits his pump so that will be the double confirmation to either prop being to big or my pump to small.....

Thanks to anyone who can provide some help and info!!!

No all SJ pump wear rings are the same. Its possible you have a fresh replacement wear ring which makes a tighter fit.

My wear ring/hooker is a tight... but that is a good thing, less cavitation.

You should run the hooker, better prop IMO. I dont think Skat even made anything close to a 9/15.

Measure the inside dia of your pump. Unlikely but you may have a 140mm skat mag pump. It should be pretty obvious visually though because the pump vanes are much thinner and welded in place. There may also be 6 or 8 vanes, not all mags came with 12 or 14 vanes.

How long before Jordan can try that impeller in his pump?

Its not a new ring...the ring in there has seen some wear, Skat fits, but Hooker is too tight...got it to fit in but get stuck and wont turn.

We all know the tighter the better ;-) but its too tight!

Skat is a 8/16 re-pitched to 9/17

Vanes dont look welded

I don't know if he'll get around to do it today cause I know he's got Easter with the Fam.

Too bad you don't have that impeller in your hands still that you can measure. I bet it's a 148 they sent by accident. That is more likely than you having a 140mm wear ring and impeller. If it was a 140 then the old impeller would likely be a swirl which your pics show it is not.

I will see if Jordan can put the calipers to it to get a diameter. I dont think it is a 140 wear ring nor a 148 prop...its just not off by that much, it kinda fits but just too dang tight and gets stuck. I am curious to see what it will do with his pump.

Don't know what to do about the crack in the housing yet, its not cracked in the wear ring just the housing....i am shopping around for both kinda right now

1262950[/URL]]get a new liner and it will fit. Yours may have a swollen spot that you can't see

Did notice some high spots, but we spent a fair amount of time just grinding down the already worn out wear ring and after the grinding took a cylinder honing tool to make it all nice a evenly smooth...i fear that adding a new wear ring will only make it even more tighter + the housing dose have a crack in it and i am pretty sure that adding a new wear ring would split it completly although i may just end up having to buy a whole new housing.
plus that still doesn't explain why the Skat fits and Hooker don't....

Stainless wear ring? I have heard of pastic and aluminum. Whats the the advantage of running Stainless? I wouldn't think you would want a wear part as hard as the prop cause they would both wear at the same time.
How much and who sells them?

About six years ago, I had a superjet with stock pump but MAG WEAR RING.

I had to sell the thing and get a new stock wear ring.

The stock wear ring is a stainless insert with aluminum housing and Solas makes an all stainless wear ring which weighs a bit more than the oem unit.

It's simple a stainless insert wear ring will have better wear resistance than plastic insert type but the yamaha stainless ones don't have replaceable inserts.

So I just need a new housing a and stainless wear ring? will it interchange with pump i have now...OEM, Solas, etc... will they all fit the same?

Jordan measured prop and its 142.xx, so probably where it should be. Looks like new wear ring/housing is in my future

the prop is 144, brand new from Impros. Im not sure where the 142 came from that would be almost 2mm too small! Which would be a noticeable difference when trying to assemble or even visually. Just ignore that, I dont know if I miss typed a text or Nate miss posted on here. Sorry for the confusion. Like I said Prop is 144 and with a new wear ring everything went together as it should!
