New prop hitting ware ring

My new hooker propeller is just barely rubbing on the ware ring, spinning by hand. My old prop did not do this. Is this normal? I cannot just replace the ring, because this is a 144 pump for the fx1 and the ware ring is modified.

Is it just one fin is a hair long hitting in multiple spots? Or do all the fins hit in multiple spots? Mark each fin and find out. No wear ring is perfectly round. Possible to warp or shift a few thou too. If it just one fin, file it down a cunt hair. If its all the fins in multiple spots, get a die grinder and sanding flapper wheel and hit the high spots on the wear ring. If you feel like its bad enough. Just take your time it's possible to take off way too much without realizing how much you took off it until its too late.

I started the motor and revved it up a few times, still scraping. It just makes a little noise, I think that if I ride it enough tomorrow it might clearance itself. Is there danger in riding it like this, will it ruin the prop or something?

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I would say as light u say its hitting .u might have a better chance blowing your motor up then tearing up that prop .just my two cents

Yeah ...as little as u say its hitting .start the ski up in the dark and if u see sparks in the pump area than its hitting to much.if it looks
Like a grinder in there to tight

For what its worth I had this problem with a new prop a few weeks ago. I spun it in the pump and marked spots. All the leading edges were a little high. I was too scared to just start the ski right away so I hand filed the prop slowly for an hour till there was barely any drag. I had a gauge out to check every 10 minutes to make sure I didn't go to far. I left a little bit on and after I started the ski once I didn't hear of it again. The ski is running great. I think we are both fine!

Your old prop probably didnt do it because it was being used as the liner slowly warped so the liner wore it down the same. Your new prop is to spec and will wear down the same. Liner and prop are both stainless so its not like one is going to give and the other wont, they both wear. You do have the option to sand down the high spot in the liner, which will reduce wear on your prop, but it will make the metal slightly thinner and it will warp slightly faster going forward. I usually just run it as is. Itz only $75 to have the edge repaired on the prop in a few years when you decide its time for a liner.
