New rider needing guidance

He's right. If you are going to widen the tray wait till winter. A stock fx1 is still a great ski and you haven't had nearly enough time to master it. Don't rush it just have fun learning

Yup, I think I'm going to just ride the hell out of it. The tray mod looks time consuming and I only got 1 ski. Thanks a bunch guys. I'll just invest in a wet suit for the colder months and keep riding. Do any of you guys wear helmets when you ride? I can see how you can crack your melon riding hard and especially a noob like me. Lol

Yes buy a helmet! Most guys use full face downhill helmets. @tightithrash wrote a great review about all of the helmets he has used. Based on his review about it being the biggest bang for your buck I went with his recommendation of the giro cipher. As far as a wetsuit goes lots of guys (including myself) get away with a 4/3 mil suit and ride when half of the water is still frozen. If you go that thin you just have to make sure you ride within a very quick swimable distance to shore in case you have engine problems. If you plan on spending a lot of time swimming in frozen water step up to a 6mil.

Proof. Breaking up the ice in a 4/3mil suit.
