Hey guys ive got a few questions for all you knowledgeable people on here.

I just picked up a 99 sxi pro on saturday, It was a birthday present to myself lol. I bought it from the original owner. This thing has been put up inside the previous owners summer home for the last SIX years. Thats right it has not seen the water since 06, who has a ski like this and doesnt ride it lol.

It has a Factory limited pipe, tue city carbon fiber flame arrestors with outer wears. aftermarket ride plate and scoop grate, straight bars and a rule 500 bilge.

Im not sure on the carbs because i dont know what these came with? but it has mikuni's on it.

This is where my problem starst. As far as the owner told me it was winterized properly by a marina(but been sitting in a heated house for 6 years). but i still got all the old gas out with a siphon. filled it back up with a mix of 93 and 110 because i had some laying around. 45:1 ratio with klotz oil. Did a compression test. both cylinders where at 155psi. Put in new plugs(br9es) and it fired right up after a few cranks. So being excited and wanting to ride i threw it in the lake.

Well it has hardly any low end. I had to feather the throttle to keep it from stalling, if i gave it to much gas it would just stall out. Now after feathering the throttle it would clear up and make normal power and i could ride it around, once up it rode great and had killer top end pull but still not the low end i was expecting. It fires right up and idles great. But if i totally let off the gas and then go full throttle right away it will stall every time. Also after shutting it off for 2min or 30 min doesnt matter, every time i go to take off again i have to feather the throttle. Basically stay on my stomach and give it a little gas then a little more ect ect until it finally acts fine and starts pulling better.

So basically im looking at where i should start and what i should do to get this thing going correctly, im fairly new to stand ups kinda i guess. But im very mechanically inclined. I can fix pretty much any thing, but i suck at diagnosis and tuning.

So what would you guys do off the bat to a very clean ski that has been sitting in a climate controlled area for 6 years.

Thank you for any help and sorry for the novel
Bryan

I have a very similar setup. (FP, FA's) Had the exact same symptoms with my sxi. Rebuilt the carbs - still had the same problem. I finally wised up and did some homework. She was starving for fuel when you stabbed the throttle. Rejetted the low speed jets to "80's" (stock is 67.5) and it has run awesome ever since with zero hesitation. You may be able to adjust this simply by playing with the low speed screw, but in my case, I needed to rejet. If you check factory pipe's website, they suggest that "some setups may benefit more from an 80 low speed jet). Worked for me.

If it is stuttering and bogging when you grab a handful of throttle (but you can feather through it to mid throttle), you are lean. If it bogs and seems to take a while to clear out the bog, you are rich.

"96-UP 750SXi

Main Jet : 147.5 (Stock)
Pilot Jet : 75 (Stock)
High speed screw : 7/8 turn out
Low speed screw : 1 turn out
Needle & Seat : Stock
Spring : Stock
Comment : Some applications may find #80 pilot better. "

By the way...I did have the 75 stock jet's in mine. Not sure where I got 67.5. Must have confused it with another setup I ran.

Okay now im confused. I have my carbs apart bought rebuild kits. im looking at the jets and the mains are 147.5 and the pilot is a 67.5 like you said in the first place. what jets should i have in there for a factory pipe and FA's?

Huh, thats funny. Guess I must have had the 67.5's as well. Haha. The FP website had me confused with listing the 75 as stock. Anyway, I ended up buying three different pilot jets from Atlanticjetsports.com to try out. Great prices, fast shipping. I picked up 75's, 80's, and an 82.5's. I tried the 80's first since it what was FP recommended. Like I said, it ran awesome with the 80's. They're only a few bucks apiece so rather than order the wrong size and wait, I just grabbed a few.

Cool thank you for the help.

I ended up rebuilding the carbs and taking it out riding, it seemed to run the best with the low screws turned out 1 5/8 turns and the highs at 1 1/8 turns. I still think that it could be better. Im gonna order up some of those jets and see how it does then.

But rebuilding an messing with the mixture screws dd help it a ton.
