Super Jet New to here and need advice on mods

Hey guys, I'm new to the site and I must say I'm addicted now. I have been around stand up for quite a while but mainly with the kawasaki 550's. I have recently bought a 2005 yamaha superjet and its bone stock. I'll probably leave the engine stock this season but I want to change up a few things. One is I want to put racing handlebars on. I called riva and wamiltons about the 0 degree handlebars. Do you guys have a preference on who to use? or should I be looking at different handlebars? I will mainly be doing freestyle. Riva told me I needed a universal mounting kit for my handlebars but the guy at Wamiltons said I didn't and his cost was $150 compared to the $350 at Riva. Maybe you guys knows. I already have a intake grate and a dominatrix extended ride plate. I was thinking about going ahead and doing foot holds and replacing my turf. Is everybody still using hydroturf? I want to do my bumper railing on the outside too and you can buy a kit for $145 to complete this. I wanted to do the nose piece and chin pad also but thats an extra $80 for a piece to customize that. Do you guys recommend doing that or just do the entire tray and rails? Thanks for your help.

This is on a side not.....I know the arena of stand up riders isn't that large. Is there anyone on here that rode in the 70's and early 80's in Daytona? My dad was one of the first testers with kawasaki in those times and maybe there are some of you that know him. I just thought it would be cool to see.

Welcome to the site!

Most guys run either a straight bar or riser bar setup with an aftermarket turnplate. Riva is $$$. There are a few other good companies out there who cater more to the freestyle crowd. Cold-fusion, Xscream, Blowsion, ATP, Jetmaniac, etc. Just buy a sheet or two of Hydroturf and cut it out yourself. It's not that bad.

For your steering, I would consider spending slightly a little more and buying the Cold Fusion Fat Bar set up. This retained the stock steering bushings...which you might be able to re-use. It runs around $130 and then straight bars are 45ish and risers are 59ish. That would be a solid steering setup!

As for turfing the rails...just buy yourself a sheet of turf and do it yourself. You literally will cut 2 to 2 1/2 inch wide strips of turf and glue them down using contact cement. And turfing the chip pad or nose isn't really any harder. You could probably do everything with 1 sheet of turf costing around 60-70 bucks.

Look up JetManiac here for parts, you cant go wrong with him. Super helpful and has pretty much everything. Although, turf might be one thing he doesnt sell.

LOL... I like your auto correct!

x2 on using Jetmaniac for parts.

I would recommend making or buying a limiting rope for your pole, broken poles suck. Foot holds make a huge difference, lots of good options available on here. Look in the new products section. Tom21, Xscream, Toby, those are the ones that come to mind first but there are others.

Also you can do the quick steer mod to your nozzle for basically nothing. Get more throw out of your steering.

Welcome to the thing.

LOL! My computer must be a freak. Thanks for the help. Is there a phone number to call Jetmaniac to ask questions? I can't seem to find one.

I have hotproduct zero degree handle bars on my 12' superjet and I love them. Also are not very expensive, I think I may have paid 150.
