Freestyle New to the forum/a little about me

Hey everybody first post on here I joined because there seems to be a huge wealth of information and knowledgeable people on this forum. SO as you can see from the username im a huge fan of 2 strokes I have spent my whole life working on 2 and 4 stroke (2 strokes are the superior machine) dirtbikes quads streetbikes everything except watercraft pretty much. About a year ago I did a build on a banshee engine for a guy and he couldnt afford to pay me for it so instead he gave me a mint and I mean MINT 87 js440 and a not mint but perfectly well running X2. At the time I was really into desert riding and didnt have any interest in them so I traded the JS for a rifle and when I recently moved from the west coast to the east coast I gave the X2 away to a friend of mine (yea I know go ahead and call me an idiot lol). Now that im on the east coast theres no desert and im not really interested in riding much anything else. For some reason now I really want to try out jet skis they look extremely fun and a good substitute for dirtbikes. So im really not happy about my previous decision to get rid of the skis I had but oh well. Havent ever been on a stand up before but im hoping years of dirtbike riding will at least help a little (balance, body language). Anyways im looking for probly another JS440 or 550 because there cheap and I believe a good learner ski, problem is it seems like its a lot bigger on the west coast then out here I cant find any jet skis for sale out here anywhere and when I say jet ski everyone out here assumes a sit down. Anyways sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any information.

Welcome! I would suggest that you save up for a superjet with a 701 in it. Much better platform for upgrades. A 440 or 550 modded will still be a less superior machine to the superjet. You can find a squarenose <95 for under $2000 or if you can afford it, get a round nose 96>

Yea that was my thinking especially since I am already a HUGE yamaha fan. Just having a hard time finding anything locally plus not exactly sure i wanna spend that much yet until i spend some time on one. would like to rent one but also having a hardtime finding that as well.

If you are sure you want to get into stand ups, saving up a little for a superjet/701 combo will save you a LOT in the future. I started with a kawasaki 750 sxi pro. Wish I would have gotten a superjet from the start. If you end up not liking it, then you would have no trouble selling it on here.

94+ Superjets came stock with 701s.

If your not sure if you like them yet find some locals and ride theirs. Most people on here will let you take their ski for a spin if your looking to get into the sport.

Save your money and stay out of the sport... You will pick up a 95 701 fall in love... Then ride an aftermarket hull with a 1100 and you will hate your ski, then spend all your money and girlfriend just to get your own hull with an 1100... Then you will be happy again.....or maybe that's just me lol

+96 Yamaha SuperJet is my vote for you... Make sure the foam is dry in what ever you buy

Best thing too do is try one out, if you like it just buy one of the hopped up skis here on the x, typically good prices here

I doubt anyone rents them. You might MIGHT find a SXR....

Which bring us to the next topic: Freestyle vs going fast.
If you think you'll want to do tricks, chase boats, 'freeride' basically generall all around activities... Superjet is a great choice.

If you think you'll have more fun carving/ racing etc: Kawi SXR800's are pretty much made to do that.

x2 on Craigslist, I suggest you find an app that sends you an alert when a keyword is posted. If you find a ski thats a deal, there is a good chance it won't last long.
Many people on here (myself included) have left work in the middle of the day to go scoop up a ski deal.
GL, welcome to the forum there is a lot of good info here.
