I need some help, I really dont know much about skis and I will be moving to a Lake in about two weeks. I have about four thousand to spend and im looking for somthing partially reliable and down the road would be open to mods. I found a 2005 800SX-R for sale in my area on craigslist. I have no experience with Skis, but my dad had a 650? back in the 80's. Good deal?

get a superjet... should not be hard to find one down there... if not local there are tons in florida too...

That price on the sxr is pretty good but you can find a good superjet for 3-4k with some good mods...

Depends on what you are wanting to do. If you want to do freestyle/freeride stuff then get a superjet. If you want something to race around on grab that sxr. You can setup a sj to race, and you can setup the sxr for freestyle but it will be easier to start with the platform suited for what you want to do.

I have a SJ - but if your just learning and you want a more stable platform I'd go for the SXR. I had a 650sx before my SJ. I like Kawi - your call. Those prices are great compared to up here in Canada. I don't think you can go wrong for $3000 on that ski. If after a year you find that you want a SJ after riding others then drop that SXR for $2500. Its all good.

Good luck. And welcome to the X!
