Little more work. The corners of the steering cover are very important as they are what I am basing all of the other angles on. This part is a bit tedious as I have to make multiple lines meet at a single point that I have yet to create.

Previously I had pushed the top of the seat down, but that is not a natural position for the seat, so unless I were to strap the seat in that position is would always look goofy. I brought the part above the seat out about 1/4" so it would line up with the seat in the resting position.

Isn't bondo heavy relative to epoxy/fiberglass? I would have assumed that the fiberglass/epoxy route would produce a better end-result... ??

I've just about finished up a 7lb can of Bondo and will probably need 2 more. The Bondo is extremely heavy. The bondo is not going to be staying on the ski. It is used to get the shape, then fiberglass is worked after the fact. Bondo is very easy to sand, while epoxy-based anything is very difficult to sand in comparison.

cabosil or micro spheres mixed with epoxy will make a far superior surface for you to glass to with epoxy, because epoxy sticks to ...epoxy. bondo is low quality and simply sits ontop of the foam. mirospheres or cabosil mixed to a mayo like consistancy and spread thinly well help to seal the foam better but not as completely as bondo. you dont want to cover the ski in bondo. think of how top heavy an x2 is already then ad alot of bondo to that and then alot of glass ontop of that. when you glass over foam you want some foam saturation aswell. bond will make dead spots. look into surfboard construction, try surfersteve.com

I get it. Bondo is bad. Bondo is Polyester based. It does not stick to SMC hulls. It will delaminate taking any epoxy based glass with it. Cab-o-sil/sphere mix with epoxy resin is the way to go on these skis. However, realize that the epoxy mix puddy is far more expensive and much harder to sand, and if you look at the bigger picture of what is going on with the project, you will realize there is no benefit to using epoxy based filler. It's all going to be cut out when the job is done.

Anyway, back on track here...

are you gonna make a mold of the top deck? i think your lines look really good, wasnt trying to jack the thread.

It's cool. It's just that you were the 3rd person to say don't use Bondo for the reason it wont bond.

Anyway, the plan is atm to get the top deck very close to what I want. Then I am going to lay glass, remove that glass and put that on another X2 hull. I am then going to take this second X2 hull and mock up a prototype hull out of it to see how my hood, latches, hinges are going to work, as well as make sure the design will function properly and see how everything will need to fit with a rear exhaust, see how the extra room accomidates the battery (might go under the seat, might not), etc etc etc. Meanwhile, my girlfriend who is much more tallented in sculpting and attention to detail is going to finish up the origional design, much more symetrical than what my prototype hull will be. After she finishes and I have confirmed the hood design functions properly on the prototype hull, I will pull a mold of the completed top deck/hood and make a new topdeck, that unlike my very heavy prototype, will be a one piece lightweight top deck.

I am in need of a hood hinge. If anyone has any suggestions, please post. The blaster hinge is too gimp for what I want. I was thinking a lowered or stock RN SJ pole bracket with a fab'ed second piece to bolt to my new hood but that's more than I want to do. I don't like the SJ conversion hoods how they use part of the hood to replace the stock pole end. I was suggested a raider hood but I haven't seen one. The new X2 hinges are over $300 and I'd rather not use a part so expensive.

Also, I need to put in a rear exhaust like the RN SJ.

I need a RN SJ steering cable, RN SJ throttle cable, maybe a few other RN parts like a battery box, hood latches (have several X2 latches, can probably convert to SJ latches later, saves money on the inital prototype), and etc. For now I have to run my 750 motor because I cannot afford to purchase another motor and pump.

haha oh well bondo makes sense to use then, but for a hinge why not a hood clip and then ratchets at the ends to secure it down for a tight seal, much cheaper than 300 and a ratchets better than oem style latches

I'm looking for something cleaner than rachets. Hood clips wont work. I need a hinge as the steering is going to be connected to the hood, so the hood can't be removable.

He said a blaster hinge is gimp. Ask twinturbostang about our Gen2 X2 custom fabbed hinge... I'm not sure on price but it's a killer setup. Also check WB1994 on PWC made a Gen1 X2 style hinge for a fixed steer SN he is building.
I like the body lines and would like to see he finished product! It's a more modern look for the Gen1...

I was painting the Superjet. I needed a pick me up on this project and I had extra paint in the gun, so the X2 got a little bit for show. I'm behind on some other projects so I have to neglect the X2 some more.
