newbie question

hey everyone!,
im new to this site and skiing in general. i spent last summer riding my friends 1994 Super Jet, and i am now looking to get my own ski. i live in the north west, and i cant seem to find a used local ski. I have decided to get a loan and buy a new ski, and need ur help. First of all, i am 6'4, 195, and want to get into freestyling. any suggestions? its between the sx-r and the Superjet. i wouldnt be modding it too much. i have heard about the superjets being better for Freestyling, but would it be harder for my size? any help would be appreciated.

p.s., i really wanna do a barrel roll by the end of the summer.

its flatwater, and ya, please explain your reccomendations. i really am torn betweent the two and need your help. thanks

SXR= heavy hull, good handling, descent motor, typically more expensive

Superjet= lighter hull, more aftermarket parts for freestyle, good handling but can easily be modded for a loose feel (better for freestyle tricks), great power and many motor mods available to increase power. All around a better choice for freestyle. Either a roundnose or squarenose sj will be good. All SJ's have the same bottom decks so they handle about the same. Look for a 701 motor b/c it has more power and is a better platform for a build up.

^^^^^Agreed! SJ's are just way lighter/nimble, perfect for freestyle. The only thing I would get an SXR for is if you wanted to race, or just like cruising around taking fast turns. SXR's take so much more work to get out of the water, everything flatwater is way harder. Roll before the end of summer on flat water could be possible on an SJ, but with only little experience I dont see anyone being able to roll the SXR on flat water. 2 cent

The SJ is the better choice, most all freestylers agree!

I would also have to agree with the SJ for flat water freestyle. As fare as SXR not being able to roll on flat water I would have agreed with that statement last year but not this year. WetBox on the forum is 90% there on his stock SXR it doesn’t even have a scoop grate and he is killer! He is a natural on the ski and would be doing double troubles on a Yamaha SJ if he had one.

LukeP90...exactly where are you at? I am in the Northwest - I may be able to help you out, or at least have you ride a couple of Superjets so you can see if you like em.

I am on the Eastside, Pullman area. We could work something out, like riding around Vantage.

Keep in mind, all years 1996-2006 are identical. SO it doesn't matter if you get a 96 or an 04 - except the 04 will be more money.

For a Superjet, definately get one with mods on it. They are dogs stock. Hopefully footholds and B pipe, intake grate and impellor and bars. That is a great start.

If you get an SXR the engine is allready a LOT faster than a stock super jet. They have plenty of power for your first year, but you still need footholds and bars.

Do not be scared to travel to pick one up. You will have by fare more options if you are willing to make a weekend trip out of it.

There is a very nice 01 Roundnose for sale in the Tri-Cities for 3500. I think he's asking too much, and he's been trying to sell that thing for the past 9 months now.
If you're looking for a nice, clean, low hours ski, this is it. Let me know if you're interested, I'll get you the guys number.
