NGK vs. Denso Spark plug

I am buying spark plugs for a watercraft. I have choice of either ngk or denso.

The ngk is $32 per plug. The denso is $6.00 per plug.

I got a few ngk and a few denso. I imagine the ngk is better. What are peoples thoughts on this? Is it worth the extra $? I am specifically talking about ngk 6366 and denso 4064.

I had a lot of trouble. I was asked to find champion L-84r plugs. No one has them, they are discontinued. I was told the denso 4064 would be the same specs and would work. But then I found out the NGK 6366 would work too. Also that the NGK was a better plug to use. Does NGK make a plug that would work that is not iridium and would work?

my notes:

Denso 4064 5.99 NLY HAS 15 LEFT IN STOCK!!! - 14mm Thread Size, 12.7mm (1/2") Reach, 13/16" (20.6mm) Hex Size, Gasket Seat, Non-Resistor, Removable Terminal Nut, Racing Type Nickel Ground Electrode, .027" (0.7mm) Gap, Heat Range 31

ngk 6366 $32.00
Gold Palladium Plug, 14mm Thread Size, 12.7mm (1/2") Reach, 13/16" (20.6mm) Hex Size, Gasket Seat, Non-Resistor, Solid Terminal Nut, Removable Terminal Nut, Fine Wire Gold Palladium Center Electrode, Fine Wire Platinum Angled Ground Electrode, .026" (0.65mm) Gap, Heat Range 10

Fine wire racing plugs are designed to give you a stronger spark from your existing ignition system. Fine wire gold palladium center electrode requires less voltage to ionize(jump) the plug gap. This allows a stronger spark which will better ignite the air fuel mixture leading to more power. The gold palladium center electrode and the platinum ground electrode for increased durability. Fine wire platinum ground electrode to reduce quenching. Reduced height plug. Hand made in Japan and constructed to withstand the most extreme racing environments.

I really have no idea! It will be for race application though. Some type of wooden boat with an outboard I believe. Maybe german engine.

I even tried the Champion substitute for NGK a while back. They SUCKED and fouled in no time! It looks like those special 6366 plugs just use gold/palladium to reduce voltate requirements. I'm guessing that's so you get a stronger spark but even that just sounds more like hype.

I've been reading up about spark plugs for years hoping to find that wonder plug that will provide a difference. So far, there have been countless tests from many different people/institutes on 4 stroke engines. They all pretty much say the same thing... Marginal differences in fuel economy and marginal differences in power. All of which are so subjective to surrounding conditions and equipment accuracy that multiple tests are averaged out with high and low numbers thrown out to try and develope some form of accurate data. Some of the more expensive plugs will last longer though.

Just checked out west marine. Couldent find it on their web site. Called up a local west marine, none in stock. They are calling headcorders to find out the price per plug for me. Meanwhile, I ordered plugs from sparkplug.com They only had 5 ngk's so I got four ngk's. (4 plugs per engine) $30. each and I got 12 densos for 6 bucks a pop.

Im curious to see if west marine will be cheaper. I'll ask the dudes who get them if they can notice any difference. (I doubt it) They will be on exact boats.

I currently live new england , shop where ever I can the best deal or superior product or service when needed.

West Marine just quoted me at $70.75 per plug + a $4.00 fee (no idea) however they come in a pack of four so you have to buy four. Total price is $299.00. HA HA HA
