Nob Sn 650 help

First of all let me say hello....
I've been lurking around this site for a while, first post.

Nob with a 650 Sn been riding a few months with no issues untill this weekend.

I was out of town from friday morning untill today. When I returned home I noticed my sn was upside down in the water. Somehow it got knocked off the lift. I flipped it back upright and the engine bay was full of water. It has been full of water for awhile, the battery must have leaked. It has been upside down long enough to to corrode several electrical fittings. Positive on battery melted off, tabs on toggle switch for bilge pump melted off.... Thats the eazy part.

I read the pinned post for sunk skis and how they should be restarted asap after a few steps... That is no longer an option for me. The pinned thread said pull everything apart, blow dry, and oil if it is not restarted soon after sinking... Is this the only safe option at this point? It was in freshwater... But it was for up to 5 days.

If your answer is just get a 701 and replace it will not help. My wife already wants to kill me for getting my sn before i found her a wakeboard boat...lol

Thanks in advance,

P.s. I am also stuck working 18-20hr days for the next few days and no one is around to help me flip to dump water out of the engine. :(

You MUST get the water out NOW. Drain as much out as you can and then fill, and I mean FILL, the engine fully with two-stroke oil.

At the earliest opportunity I would disassemble the motor and check for any corrosion. You might be lucky if it was fresh water. It would be a miracle if it survived without damage in salt water.

The good news is if the motor is toast a replacement 650 will be cheap ( but look at it as an opportunity to upgrade to a 701 or 760).

I'll get help flipping it over to drain when i get back home this evening. I got what i could out last night. I stuck a small diameter hose threw the carb into the intake and siphoned. No water was in the cylinders that i could see with a flashlight looking threw the spark plug holes..

X2kid you said to fill with 2cycle oil untill the engine cpuld be torn apart... What is the best way to do that? Just pour it threw the carb and spark plug holes?

Thanks,

I am hope to be lucky, it was freshwater.... If my luck does not hold out it I will not be riding untill sometime next summer. I just purchased a lake house and am remodeling the entire house, funds are currently limited.

Plus the wife will be a little upset if i even think about spending money on my new toy already..... I was going to upgrade impeller and do a cats for xmas... Might be doing a 701 upgrade instead.

I would wait till you can flip the skl upside down and turn it over before filling it up with Oil (Through the spark plug holes). You need to get all the water out possible.

I would even try doing it solo with a mat on the floor and rolling it onto the pole.

Good luck

I sunk my ski in fresh water. Flipped it to get water out but then didn't do anything else for 2 days before I got it cleared and running. Life was fine, so you have a chance :)

Yeah have high hopes.... I'll get help to dump it tonight and fill with oil. I'll then pull the engine and take a look on my first day off.

I had a temp lift built. The wake board boats throw big wakes and must have knocked it off being a busy weekend. The wakes had been fun for me to ride, but I think they got the last laugh over the busy holiday weekend.
I will go pick up my welder and make a real lift just as soon as i get the sn fixed.

Do not fill it with oil and try and start it.. you will hydro lock. Roll the ski on its side without the plugs out and run the starter while also holding down the stop button. Get as much water out as you can. Put in new plugs and start it and run her until she is hot, but not too hot,(cylinders around 130) then use fogging oil.

Fast forward to 10min mark:

Quinc, I would have suggested your method (standard sunk 'ski recovery) however, the 'ski appears to have no functioning electrics, so running the engine is out of the question.

The method I suggested was used on my old SX 750 which had total electrical failure in the surf and mostly sunk on the way back to shore, ingesting a load of salt water in the process. Fortunately we had a marine technician in our crew. After about half an hour work it was decided the issue couldn't be resolved and the engine (after draining as much water out as possible) was filled with oil. Next day electrical issue was sorted, oil extracted from engine (painful) and no corrosion occurred.

Well thanks for the responces everyone...

I had bought a new battery yesterday and let it charge overnight...
I went with quince's suggestion.
Today when i got home i dumped it on its side and drained all the water upon doing so i noticed a large ball of troutline string wrapped around the impeller shaft. So while it was draining i cut that free. Really not much water came out. I then sprayed the fogger oil in the cylinders and carb hoping nothing had seized yet. I let it sit a few min to let the oil penetrate as much as possible. While it sat I re soldered the connections for the battery terminals and replaced tge bilge pump terminals and toggle. And checked for water in the fuel.
I then rolled it over a split second with the plugs out and my finger on the kill switch (to save the coils)...
Yeah it turned.... Not siezed.... I then rolled it for a good while not much water came out just a fine mist....
I was thinking to myself awesome!
Put the plugs in pulled the primer and within 15 seconds fired right up... I gave it a good dose of fogger and let her open up to blow any junk out. I then threw it in the lake a rode for about 15 min.

After i was done i rolled it over again with my finger on the kill switch while spraying in more fogger oil. I dont know if that will help with the bearing life any but i did it anyway, for giggles.

Now we will see. Will the bearings be toast before the end of summer? Idk
All i know is i am going to ride it like i stole it, then when the time comes 701...
Thanks everyone for your quick input,
Adam
