Surfriding Nose Stab vid, first attempts :) + PICS update

So now that I learned nose stabbing whats next? :) Im more going for a barrel roll than a back flip even ppl say backflip is easier? Do I need shortened pole to pull a backflip or the stock one should be fine as long as I hit a good steep wave?
I tried a barell roll a few times and fell on my head, landing upside down.. I guess thats a half way success :)...
Today was an absolute blast at Haulover inlet.

Update from yesterday (1/28/12) same location, less waves but still lots of fun :)
I feel the barellroll is coming soon unless I break ski part or a body part lol :)...

Tide ripping out at Haulover inlet! Grew up surfing and was a guard there 25 years ago and will never forget it. On bigger days we were able to surf in the inlet. Bridge jump?

I went from stabs to rolls. Keep throwing good stabs like that then when your really comfortable with stabs and your ready for a roll, just commit (dont half a** it and you will get around!) I say this from experience. I too started out by pancaking a few attempts. Then one day I was throwing great stabs all morning and my buddy said just go for a roll so I did and made it plate to plate!

You will have no problem rolling as long as you commit to locking your feet in, and doing what the ski needs you to do.

I'm moved by DASA power!
You should keep your helmet on at all times! Not just when learning to roll. Looking good though. I'm still trying for barrel rolls at the moment. I havea feeling that upgrading my HP will help me land both that and flips. but we will see in a month.

Definitely shorten pole! I run like a -6 way improved handling and easier recovery imo

Eddie (one of our group riders) cut his pole shorter and had untolerable pain in his back. He ended up buying another stocker not shortened.
I heard Mark Gomez also did not like his pole shortened too much. Both of them as well as myself (5'11", 160 pounds) are short, skinny guys.
That's why I'm still hesitating on that mod..
Eventually I'll upgrade to RRP pole, but then I will need a/m hood and nose piece which adds up over the allowed budget for now :)..

Im 5'10" 165 lbs and run a -4 pole with straight bars! Your back might be uncomfortable at first, but once you get use to it and adjust your body positioning you will be glad you have the shortened pole.

You don't "need" a new hood or nose piece for an RRP pole.
