the riva is a straight thru bore the fullspec has a venturi this helps increase the fuel signal. better fuel signal = better throttle response.also Ed's booster design atomizes the fuel better

Well IMO i think thoese "minor" details are hard to notice, and in no way are worth allmost 2x the price of a new set of ex Riva Power Bombs. Just saying for 620 dollars you save by going Riva over FS you can bump up your performance quite a bit.

there are substantial diff between the 2. The power bombs seem to be more prone to tuning issues with the high speed jets,A few of us have owned those through the yrs and ive seen all kinds of weird issues with them. They have a diff type venturi that seemingly no matter how well tuned they are, alot more fuel is used compared to any other setup..who ever was running those carbs were the first to run out and be gettin towed back on long ocean rides.

so I have noticed lately lots of full spec 49's for sale and siiting/not selling used...but full spec 48's once listed sell quickly??? so I did a back to back compairison...I took my 48's off my 850 pv dasa engine which was running like a raped ape, could almost rip your arm off with low end response & hit.....installed the 49's(plug & play) and the power was softer and more linear, no matter how much I tuned them they overall seemed to detract from the engine and hard low end response was lost, upper mid & top seemed to where the 49's performed better,,maybe..... ....im gonna go out on a limb and say 48's are a better full spec carb IMO

maybe your puny little 850 wasnt enough motor for the 49s. automotive comparison: dual quad tunnel ram is going to get you more rpm than a single quad tunnel ram. since we want bottom end, stuffing bigger carbs on there doesnt always give the desired result. 48s sells quicker cause the price is lower and the difference is questionable. cheaper always sells faster than more expensive.

The real question, besides carb diameter, what is the differences between a factory mikuni carb and these aftermarket ones? I have a hard time believing there is any black magic here other than changing the venturi nozzle in the carb to one that is larger and ported/polished so not to inhibit air flow.

It's alot of money for these carbs. I think it's pretty much brand new Mikuni 44's, bored out to 48mm, then install their own CNC machined venturi nozzle

nah,Ive tried 49s on a 830 stroker and they work fine,I found the opposite to be true of the post you quoted really. being necked to 46 they respond very quick
