Number of people who can pull off a clean backflip

My goal is to pull a back flip off by the end of the year off my own double up wake. What all do I need to do mod wise to pull it off? Currently I have a 701 62t 61x with aftermarket flame arresters, pro-tec mach exhaust. Wamiltons pump cone, Shredmaster intake and ride plate, impeller and footholds.

That is what I was afraid of. How about off a boat wake or 3 footers on the Great Lakes. Is it possible with a 701 and a superjet hull that's not shortened

Boat wake probably no. Unless it's a huge rich guy yacht. A good V-Wake yes. I'm not sure on what you need surf wise for a good flip wave. Just make sure it's deep enough and hit the wave when it has a good amount of curl right before it starts breaking.

a 4-6 foot wave in the surf will flip just about anything. Once you get the mechanics of it down you can flip off smaller waves with ease as well. I have noticed I have to come in slower and do a bit of a pre-hop to flip off a little 2-3 footer in surf.

Make sure its deep. Nosing in sucks!!

Last year did a nose in flip off a 3 foot wave on a 735 RN with trim by hitting white water just as the wave broke. I think you will have a difficult time without trim on 3 foot size waves...suggest you go back to stock flame arrestors too.

Theres no denying that flips are fun but it doesn't compare to a good session of actually riding and slashing waves and re-entries. Nailing a killer re-entry and landing back in the face is a killer feeling especially with speed. Flips in FL surf is funwhen conditions are good because it's normally too shallow to consider the risk IMO

The internet makes it seem a lot more common than it actually is. Our sport is very small. I'm just guessing here so I could be way off but I would say World wide the number of people who can Flat water flip is probably around 200 or less. Guys who can flip off a boat wake I'm going to double to 400 or less. For surf I'm going to say a 1000 and change.

i backflipped my BOB Gen3 with 701 single carb, ADA (185psi), B pipe, Trim, off a boat wake. I can't get it all the way around off my own wake. My son can FW roll it plate to plate.

That was awesome the day you pulled that off, mate! I was stoked to give you $20.00 for winning the backflip bet!

Rodney, just for clarification...does one have to pull out of a trick "clean" before one claims that they've "done a XXXX"?

Looks like you've made some progress.

Yeah that's funny. Under that thinking I guess now both of us can "claim " that we did doulble back flips.

I agree. The flip is easy with these short hulls and a lot of power. Most these guys doing flips I want to see learn to roll.

it took me 2 years to land a clean flat water BF, and maybe 4 week to land a clean barrel roll(when I decided to give it a try). since last summer im trying to do a one footed BF and Im still unable. after 2 months of barrel roll i was able to do a no hand barrel roll. In my book BR are way much easier than BF. Just my .02 cent.

Edit: on A/M boat

Ditto, I love doing flips, but nothing is better than getting in the zone and just slashing up some waves, busting out some nice re-entries in some nice strong surf... great fun!

So, Rodney, I meant to ask you...how many people that were in on that "backflip bet", actually paid up?

Damn... thanks for the reminder... I for one forgot. And... after beating the snot out of myself attempting and failing at FW BFs, since he can do it he definitely deserves the payoff.

I think I'm just short on power and talent in equal measures :)
