O-ring Material? Greater Performance Head

Planning on ordering some O rings for my Greater Performance 701 Head...however on McMaster Carr they have like 8 different o-ring material types....What kind do I get? Viton(I have seen that one mentioned)?

Also if anybody knows the size off hand(Inside/Outside diameter) that would be great...this head came without any o-rings and I don't have any tools to accurately measure what size orings I need.

Thanks!

Do a search for official mcmaster carr list or something along those lines. There is a huge list on here for all ski related things. I just bought o-rings last week and some of the water jacket cord since it was only $0.18 a foot and I was already paying shipping.

How much extra material do you have to buy to get enough for one head? I'm interested if you have any extra. I have 2 of those heads on my skis.

RIVA gives you 2 cords at about 28" in their kits and I usually cut off about 4-6". So figure 2 feet to seal the head where it mates to the cylinder and maybe another 2 feet to do the seal between the two halves of the head (which I never touch unless there's a problem). Anyway, for $1.80 for 10 feet of cord and something like $2.50 for the set of compression o-rings, I figured how could I afford NOT to buy extras.

Here's the link to that thread. http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/31581&highlight=official+mcmaster+carr

Only the thin waterjacket material is cord. Everything else is an actual o-ring.

Makes perfect sense..had me confused for a bit earlier.

Now I just need to find out which ones this head uses...I know there are supposed to be other ones that use the same orings and are a direct copy of the Greater Performance head.

Calipers are an excellent tool to own. Make it quick and easy to measure diameter of the head and thickness of the o-ring. I think I spent $12 on a digital 6" caliper from harbor freight, 6-7 years ago. They're probably up to around $20-$25 now but still worth every penny. Dial calipers are cheaper but after you use it a few times and have to count and add to get your measurement, you'll just buy a digital one anyway.

I know exactly what you are saying. While in school for watercraft we had every tool known to man(or it seemed like it)...then I come back to my garage and I have just the basics.

Sadly a Dial Caliper was not a top priority..now at times like this I could definitely use one.

I have calipers and a brand new O-ring kit for the Greater Performance head if you need some measurements, just can't promise I'll get a chance to measure it for you tonight.

Blowsion, UMI and Greater Performance Heads all take the same kit. The Blowsion website shows a different price for the ADA, Riva, and Protec kits so i take that to mean they are different. http://www.blowsion.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=ORINGKIT

That is some good info. I had read that somewhere before, but people unsure on which brands interchanged.

If you can get those measurements sometime I would still highly appreciate it. We need multiple sets so it may still pay off for us to order from mcmaster.
