Hood kits do help keeping water out, and more importantly where it flows when it comes in. It also is alot lower for some tricks a better looks, offers holds, and less wieght and more strength.
I have a hood, scupper and dual 500 pumps......I still keep water in my hull. Esp when you get into freestyle instead of rec riding and your trying trick after trick or in comp when you have 2 minutes and water injestion can kill you.
It's just THAT much more protection on your motor.
More shiny stuff people like that looks pretty. Honestly....try both stocker and aftermarket back to back....you cannot feal ANY diffrence.
But you CAN feel a difference in a lightened OEM flywheel?????? I doubt it. The risk of breaking a lightened flywheel is as high as water intrusion from F/A's, yet it is a popular mod. At low power levels, you might not be able to see a substantial difference, but at higher power levels, there is a large difference in flow. Not just in volume, but in where the air is directed into the carbs. Malone is running aftermarket F/A's and so are many of the top pro's. Even Paul runs aftermarket. Wonder why? The potential for the OEM to become a bucket when the boat is upside down is a pretty big deal also.
