300/440/550 Oil in 85 JS550 Crankcase? HELP!!

Quick Question: Just wondering if there should be oil in my crankcase? just bought the js550, building it and puuting new top end on. I noticed that there was oil in the crankcase, just wondering if that is normal....if so...how much should be there and what kind of oil is it? just regular 2 stroke oil?

No. Uneducated "mechanics" have been known to mistakenly pour oil into the flywheel inspection port.

I am talking about the crankcase not the flywheel...there is no oil in the flywheel

it is connected on the 550 i think but what he is saying is a shade tree mechanic probably pored 10w 40 in the inspection port in the front of the engine and a 550 does not use it only the js 300 uses oil in the crank case. so the answer is no you should not have oil in large amounts in there. vac it out or if you can pull apart drain it and get it out just don't use degreaser on it or you could scar your engine or burn it up.
