Super Jet Ok guys i need some help here

I have a 1999 super jet that I was forced to move very quickly due to my crazy ex taking a pick axe to it and my Gsxr 1000 . The bike a total loss but the ski fixable . I had to move very quickly ( when the ax comes out it's time to go and fast) unfortunately where I stored it at was not close and it's been 9 months sense I could retrieve it. It's so sad they left it uncovered and let water sit in it . I'm heartbroken ! I got the holes fixed and got it cleaned up , I got it to turn over and no water in the engine thank God but the starter seems trashed . I dont turn a wrench really so I'm looking for input . I believe I need to replace the starter and I want to know what the most affordable brand is that I can count on . I'm a single woman and ride alone often and dont need to be stuck out on the water alone! I need something affordable!
Or I would spend the 400$ on an OME part ...
Suggestion please?

Also do I need any thing else when replacing this part?
And how the hell do it get to it ?
Do I need to pull the motor out ? It looks like a tight space to get too?
Any input would help a girl out ....thanks

OEM for sure, just buy used. Can find them on here for $50-75 used or a quality rebuild from a couple sources for $175ish? The cheap A/M will leave you stranded long before a older used OEM.

As for replacing, its simple if uncomfortable to swap. Depending on your pipe you should be able to replace without removing anything, its 2 wires and 2 bolts. Try to find someone local with ski knowledge to help would be my suggestion.

Looks like you got a couple of good replies already. Just wanted to thank you for not posting pics of your pick-axed and neglected superjet. ;-)

It's a factory B pipe and my local ski shop I cant or wont go to now for good reasons other than hes the ex"s good friend and a drunk now too so I'm going to have to just figure it out.
Thank you for the suggestions. And I will look for a ome used starter. I was kind of fearful of these off brands.

You will need to take off the 3x 14mm bolts from the exhaust to remove the headpipe and chamber out of your way. Then you will be able to access the starter easily. Feel free to post pics / videos if you have any questions and we can probably walk you threw it.

Why do you think it’s the starter? Jw. Could be button, solenoid, connections including just the plug between switch and ebox. I would jump power direct to starter to check it before pulling it, could save you a lot of time

I know the name may have met him out at a race or two or a free ride over the years . And cool of you to throw that out there for me .
First I must find a starter I can afford.
I'm a supervisor for ups and we are slammed so I havent had time to even look for one yet .

Well to get it to turn over I had to jump the starter so I dont know that it is for sure I just assumed because it started . I changed out the plugs gapped them at 18 ? I think that was what I was told years ago and replaced the gas and put a new battery in it everything else looked ok but your right I'm clueless. It sucks . Should have taken auto shop not wood shop!

So you jumped the starter and it started? Then the starter isn't your problem lol. .018" sounds tight, that's like high boost 4 stroke gap, stock superjet b8hs is .039". all the way down to .028" wouldn't be crazy but .018" pretty tight.

l meant to say that to BK.He may know some riders in your area that could lend you a hand.

Lol well I may be totally wrong that may have been for a different ski I use to have a X2 I liked for ocean riding a lot ...or could have been for the 2stroke dirt bike , i said i didnt turn a wrench..... I really am clueless here and know just enough to make a mess honestly ?
But hey I'm willing to try or learn rite?
