Other older superjet or 750 sxi?

Hello to everyone. I have been doing lots of reading on this site for a while now and am ready to upgrade a little. I have been riding two old kawasaki 650sx ski's for the past two seasons and have grown to really enjoy the sport. The 650's are a little beat up. heavy and slow. I am pretty comfortable on them now and feel very limited to what I would like to start doing. So I have been looking at buying something in the $2500-$3500 price range. Up here in Ontario Canada the ski's are still pretty pricy for the years. I am currently trying to work a deal on a 97 RN superjet and am looking at a 98 750 SXI Pro. I am wondering if anyone would be able to lead me in the right direction. I plan to ride the new ski for a season or two then buy a BOB hull or something like it. My goal is to be able to do flat water backflips in time. Which of the two would be better and why? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

SXI pro is a tank and one of the worst freestyle skis ever. but the 750 motor built vs a 701 built is a much better setup. But the Superjet pump 144 blows away the 140 kawi pump.
hope that helps.

Anyone have a RN that they would like to sell me in my price range to help a future freestyler out :)
I have checked the classifieds but there mostly modded like crazy and too much $ unless I can sell both my sleds.

I'm moved by DASA power!
I know they may seem pricey, but try building a ski from scratch with decent parts. Used skis are a bargain, if they have been done right. Save up til you can get what you want as far as the guts of the ski, then get the hull
you want in a year or 2 there will be a lot of now state of the art used hulls around. Technology and competition is advancing quickly.

Pick up a RN and let the buying frenzy begin. I am sure you wont be ready for a Hull for a bit concentrate on getting a good ski at a great price with some of the mods out of the way.

If you can pick up a rn with a pipe, intake grate, and ride plate that would be a really nice start. Dont worry you will find plenty of stuff to spend $$$ on.

I totally agree with you Buckwild. The only thing is that I have bought many dirt bikes ,sleds , cars and motorcycles that had been previously modded and have had too many issues with other peoples work. Not that I am saying it happens all the time, but I would rather buy a really clean stock ski then a modded on that is likely beat up ( used as intended ) just so I can do the work myself. If I can find a killer deal though I will go for it.

If you're planning on going A/M soon and gutting it anyways, id also consider old SNs with the 701 and some mods, put that extra that a RN hull will cost towards a more modded SN.

The 750 has a hull that is very strong, my sj hull was paper thin you could see through it. The one thing thats nice about the sj is that there are tons of parts new and aftermarket out there. If money is an issue you can get a 750 for half the price of a sj. U might want to think about a sxr, i built a 2000 freestyle sj over the winter rode it once and sold it. i know I'm going to get jumped on for this but I think the sj doesn't hold a candle to the sxr (imo it just fits my style of riding like a glove). If your set in flipping then the superjet is the way to go. But freestyle skies are not really made for long rides.

Whatever about the strength of the 750 hull.

Bottom line if you want to do anything more than just ride around you will want a SJ.

The 750 was cool it was my second ski and it was fun, When Yamaha came out with the SJ they did all of the stuff Kawasaki should have done on the 750.

So I haven't had any luck with getting a RN SJ. I'm kinda pissed about it. But I did pick up an old 1990 650 sx of my own completely rebuilt and in great shape. runs awesome and is going to be a great ski for my wife to ride next summer when I pick up a RN. I think I am just going to have to make a road trip south of the boarder to buy the ski I want. The sx is fun to just ride around on and is great for my friends to ride when they come over but is just too heavy and slow for what I want to do. At least it gets me out in the water for now. The two older 650 sx's that are my cousins are in really rough shape and in desperate need of rebuilds and where still fun to bash. The ski I just bough makes them feel like they are barely running. I know it's not a recommended ski but like I said it get's me in the water for now. I hope I can join the RN frenzy next season.

Squares have a better and lower pole position stock. They are 1/3rd the price with a 61x in them. You would not know the difference for a yr. You would love it over any kawi ever made. I think the round noses have a smaller hood area, and are harder to work on. You pay like 1000 bucks to lower your pole, hood, and get a nosepiece, that should tell you how concerned most the rn owners are with money and am parts and looks, vs actual riding skill and abilities.

They only look different, and have a different hood. People will argue that they are slightly stronger but take a square or round out stock, and beat it hard, and both will fall apart just as fast. Sorry, I get sick of al the round nose bs, maybe iots cause I dont have one, but tons of people reccomend them, when for the price, a beginner could find a much, much better deal.

If your still stuck on a rn, theres a few in cali for under 3k, shipping wouldnt be too outrageous, I think you could stay in budget.

Dude I could ride my 750 wide open in big chop for 20 miles I loved that ski but after havin my square and my round the 750 doesn't compare... My stock round is a fun ski in it's own way and my built square is great for a big air session or a quik shore line run but there is no way you want to ride for 3 hours straight locked in footholds with a short pole and a motor that wants to rip you arms off everytime you blip the throttle

So would all the parts from a square nose be usable in an AM hull build down the road ? I have no reason to not go for a SN if the parts will work for a build later. The only problem is that the SN are still stupid prices around here.

The important parts fit. Stuff like the pole is different, but it's all the same pump and motor. A 61X is a 61X, a 62T is a 62T. The 62T is a better motor, but not omg this is amazing better than the 61X. If you can get a 61X 701 SN for $1500 and a 62T 701 RN for $3000, and you goal is to get an aftermarket hull, buy the 61X SN. The 61X will make plenty of power for you, leave $1500 in your pocket to reach your ultimate goal, the hulls will ride similar enough especially for someone who doesn't get to ride them side by side everyday.

You're on a budget. A 61X with a B-pipe and a nice prop is going to be stronger than a 62T bone stock. Spend the extra money on performance instead of a hull you want to replace anyway. I bought my RN SJ for more $$ because it was newer/cleaner and, I'll admit it, prettier. I plan on keeping it, so that look is important to me. But you want a BOB, so that is not important to you. There are clean SN 701s out there, so that's not necessarily a benefit either.
