One of our Brothers is in need of help.

He's doing ok today. Head ultrasound looked normal so that's very good. Each day is a roller coaster ride but they say it's to be expected in the NICU. He had a bowel perforation on day 4 which required surgery to insert a drain in his groin. Doctors feel like it has now healed and they'll slowly remove the tube starting today. Still on ventilator until his lungs improve. They just did a heart ultrasound and we're waiting on results. He weighs 980 grams today.

Steph and I are adjusting to life in Phoenix and the NICU. I'm less overwhelmed by the city but the hospital kinda freaks me out. Steph is just the opposite. She works with vent patients everyday so she handles that part fine. Traffic and people, not so much. I've decided to ship our car out here because it'll cost 3x as much to rent. I have a bid out on Uship but I'm open to suggestions. Current low bid is just under a grand.

So glad to hear he is making positive progress! We will keep praying for the three of you.

Have you had any luck with the Uship?
Where is the car coming from? I have friends that travel a lot but not sure they would be in the right area or not.

I've gotten several quotes between 900-1k. Car is in piney flats, tn 37686 close to bristol motor speedway. Sanoman works in the car industry and was going to ask around today too. Thank you.

He's doing ok today. They had Stephanie hold him a few days ago which was great while it lasted. However, the little booger extubated (pulled his vent tube out) and his stats dropped quick. Things got very real for few long minutes. They tell us not to worry until we see them worried. Well, everyone in the NICU ran to his bed and we were told to wait outside. Shorty they came out and said he was fine and had been trying to breathe on his own once they pulled the tubes on out of his mouth. They did however have to reintubate as his lungs just aren't ready yet. It was a very scary moment and it's taken us a few days to recover from the stress. Aside from that traumatic event he's doing well. Resting, growing, and pooping. Weighs 1300g.
In other news.. It's crazy hot here for Oct. Supposed to hit 99 today. Uship worked out great and we received our car 5 days after booking. The water tastes terrible here.

Our little guy is 6 weeks old today. Up to a whopping 4lb 14oz. Still on an oscillator ventilator and waiting on his lungs to catch up. He's managed to pull his tube out three times now. Latest incident was this morning. Likes to make things hard on himself just like ol' dad.
Steph, Jonas and I have been overwhelmed with love and support throughout this ordeal. I can't thank you guys enough for the help we've received from near and far. Couldn't do this without you. I've been involved with other forums and hobbies but there's no people like jetski people. This community is the greatest.

This pic was a few days ago. I had seen his eyes open briefly before but this was the first time we looked at each other.

Still hanging out in AZ. Little man is doing well overall. Up to 6 lbs 12 oz and has been learning to eat from the bottle and boob. It wears him out and he sometimes forgets to breathe but he'll get it soon I believe. Then we can get rid of the feeding tube. They removed the last tube from his mouth on Christmas morning. It was so awesome to see his mouth and the rest of his face finally! Couldn't hold the tears back that day.
Yesterday he had surgery to repair a hernia that popped up where they put the drain in his abdomin on day 4. He did good and is recovering fine but it'll be a day or so before he's back to where we were. They had to reintubate for surgery so it took him a few steps back respiratory wise. He should be back to nasal cannula by the end of the day.
Being on oxygen for so long puts him at risk of developing ROP. It affects the eyes. He gets an eye exam about once a week right now and he does show early signs of the disease. If it progresses he will need laser treatment. Hopefully not because they would have to put him out and the breathing tube would have to go back in.
So looks like we'll be here until sometime in February. We're really not in a rush. We're confident he is in good hands here and want to be positive he's ready for the trip home...And home is covered in snow right now! We wouldn't make it up the driveway in this rwd car.
This will be the first Daytona freeride I've missed in 7 years. All the updates on my phone are killing me lol. Surf forcast looks pretty good too. Can't wait for the pics and videos to start rolling in. Oh... PSA: If the surf is good and you drive to the lake... hand in your man card before you leave the beach.
Do some big rolls, flips, and get pitted for this lil dude!

Finally I have a minute and wanted to let everyone know my baby boy is home in Tennessee. Somehow our case manager chipped away at our insurance company until they caved in and approved air medical transfer. We stayed in the NICU here in TN a week and got to bring him home this past Wednesday. It's so awesome he's finally here but also very scary without the docs and nurses around. So far so good though. Eating, pooping, and growing. At 4 months old he is now newborn size. 8lbs. Thanks for your continued prayers and support. Thank you BK for starting this thread.
