One way valve in exhaust? (WDK wet pipe)

I have heard of the Waterdawg wetpipe having water intrusion issues and am trying to figure out ways to remedy it. Is the water causing the issue the left over water from the pipe cooling or water flowing back in from the exhaust outlet? Would a 2.5" sewer drain valve (one with a stainless flange) hold up to the exhaust flow and heat (probably not much heat by the time it gets to the bulkhead)?

Check valves inside the exhaust don't work,been there done that,it causes a huge exhaust restriction the kills performance.

I have same problem with my b pipe. As soon as I shut the motor off, it rapidly cools, and sucks water all the way back filling the crank case. I just havnt been able to figure out a way to make a small enough waterbox yet.

I was thinking of having one made out of aluminum(if in fact it is a problem with the water coming in through the exhaust outlet), single baffle in the middle just enough to store/trap some water and small enough to fit between the exhaust outlet and waterbox. Probably have it bolt or strap to an aluminum battery box or glass inserts in the hull. Here is a quick sketch of what I am talking about.

Indeed. Ive thought about that too. However without a syphon tube reaching down to the bottom, your cooling water will seemingly accumulate at the bottom half filling both chambers?

Yeah good point, it would solve the water coming in from filling the pipe too quickly but would retain all the cooling water that is in the pipe already....:dunno:
 
How high is your exhaust tube in the hull?
I am building mine with a high entry tube, a low exit tube and don't see a need for a baffle, my exhaust tube is almost on the bottom of the hull though.

My exhaust exit tube will be stock superjet location, I am unsure how high the chamber will exit because I don't have it yet. You are saying you have just a box (like the one I drew up)?

when i ran the wdk pipe if i sat more than 2 mins it would fill the pipe up any longer than that i couldnt start it.every time i stopped i had to put my hand over the ex tube in the rear it was a pain

I don't see how it could be that much worse than a stock setup...the exhaust pipe doesnt run any lower...only difference is no waterbox and my Xmetal box doesnt hold very much water but I never have problems with water in the exhaust. I need to figure a way around this problem.

the lack of waterbox and the flat draft manifold compound that problem.
the baxter pipe has that problem to a lesser extent as it's dry but water can still flow back to the engine.
this one of the reasons most pipes have a loop in the headpipe.
b pipe for example.
it's the reason the few wdk fans left in the world are still hoping for a wdk pipe?right jeff?

I had a 1991 650 SX with a factory rear exhaust once. Well the exhaust tube had like an s shaped bend in it where it went through the hull. It is similar to what I have in the attached pic. The only thing I have to assume it is liek this is a diagram from a service manual I had. Also I tried to stick a broom handle up the exhaust from bothe the rear and the engine compartment and it would only go in so far. I am nto sure if this would be a feasible option but it seems like it would help. Plus it would clear up room for footholds. Kawasaki also had a flapper that covered the 750 SX exhaust opening on the outlet of the hull that may be able to be adopted to an SJ..

Bonzai Bob did something similar to this on his FX1000 but I do not feel like cutting my tray open to do that this season. I have thought about a scupper on the end....

I think ihop had a scupper on his exhaust and i know he cut it off the first ride with his ski, i am not sure if that was because of too much noise with the xmetal box and front outlet or because it was hurting performance.

i would make some type of a P trap thing so it would be harder for water to get into the pipe. Or in the future make the exhaust outlet above the water line and dump lots of water in the end of it to quiet it down some
 
When you install the pipe you can rotate it so the the stinger is high, then glass in mounts to suit. Simple box like yours with high inlet and low exit and no baffle
 
If you can get brass pot-scourers, make the top of the waterbox removable and chuck a few in to baffle the noise, will have little effect on back-pressure until you add enough that you have to stuff them in.
