Opinions, 701 SN or hold out for a RN

So I've been looking for an RN for awhile but for my budget and wants its not always possible.

Well something came up recently, found a 1994 701 SN with a trailer for about a 1k. Now I know the majority of this website would say a 701 SN will never be as good as an RN but how much of a step down is the 701 SN from the RN?

Also this ski is completely stock and guy sounds like he's taken immaculate care. As well I know after selling the trailer I could have a net investment of $800 which I could easily sell this in the summer for a profit if it doesn't have enough umph for me.

I guess I'm thinking out loud but I just want confermation of sorts to know it's a good idea, lol.

Thanks to anyone who responds.

a sn is just as good as a rn. aesthetically people don't like the sn as much but that's about it. the rn has the dual carbs but for bottom end hit the single carbed 701 can be just as strong. where is it? if you dont buy it a have a buddy who needs a ski.

Nothing wrong with a 94 SN!

Pros: (IMO)
701! (Does it have a pipe?)
If you ever wanted to swap parts into a RN hull, basically everything swaps over - including the mid-shaft!
Same bottom hull as the RN

Cons: (IMO)
Ugly handle pole, but you can put a RN pole on it and it looks cool.

I'll tell you what's up when I talk to the guy, and yeah def will give you the info if I don't buy it.

No pipe, totally stock. So sucks in that aspect, but that means less molestation.

I bought my 90 sn for $1400, it has a 701, coffman sizzler pipe, skat prop, top loader, milled head, mild reinforcement, umi bars, and fairly fresh turf. $1000 isnt bad for a 701 sj. I havent ridden a rn but from what ive read the differences are not drastic and the sn has a lower pole bracket. I guess its more a matter of preference.

thats a bargain. the lower half of the hull is the same as the RN so it rides pretty much exactly the same. trash that ski and swap every thing over to a roundnose hull. one hull just sold on ebay for like $375. you can find them cheap! goodluck!

do it .. get your self on the water.. then if a rn come up you can alwasy sell the sn if you like, or maybe if a rn hull comes up for the right price (not one of these gold dust $2k stock hulls) or even a aftermarket hull

nothing wrong with a sn, they ride fine in fact most people do top deck conversions keeping the sn bottom deck

Square noses are twice as good looking as a crap ass round nose.

A_) Everyone and their mother has a round nose

B_) Round noses look like baluga whales stock

C_) After $1000 of hood and nose mods, then they just look like a 750sx, totally featureless

D_)After $1000 of trying to lower that damn handlepole and hood your still not even as low as a stock squarenose

E_) Square nose hulls are stronger

F_) Uhmm.... saving 2 grand minimum on a purchase sounds like an obvious negative.... right?

G_) Being one of the few cool kids who still sport 90* angles and body lines on their ski. HAWT.

H_) Having an extra 2 bolts on the ride plate means your pump can handle at least another 60-100 horsepower before it gets ripped out....

Snag it.

Item E. I guess you have never seen all the trays of the SN that have ripped out or the front of the hood seal area where people use to take 2x4's or pcs steel to try and keep that front lip from sagging.

I think I know where this thread is going again.....

Both skis are great :grouphug:

For that price and its unmolested I would go ahead and buy it....great ski to ride have fun and decide down the road what you want to do,you will easliy sell it without any loss.

If you want to upgrade get a pipe that can be used later with RN....other parts are interchangable...

cheers

IF you don't mind, please keep all that info to your self.
I want all the kool kids riding RN's as they are sooo much better than the SN's.

Keep the SN prices down by putting SN's down committee.
