Jarrod-Barbara hasnt told anybody I liked riding her sqaure has she? It's supposed 2 be top secret that I liked a Yamaha!!! BTW-u were soooooo right on the footholds-I am finally used to them and now hate ridin a ski w/o em!!!

Gil that thing is sweet :woot: , I really don't think the SXR has any limitations in the surf, but you're definately pushing poop up hill trying to flat water freestyle with it, find some surf and you'll be set.

I reckon you'd be BR and BF'n in a few days, first day would be one ride then spend the rest of the day putting in real footholds, second day one ride then replacing the pole (last about 2 seconds in the surf), day three backflip and roll all day. :cheer: :Banane01: :cheer:

How does she handle with the plate cut like that?? I've been changing mine a little at a time and haven't got that short yet, mines currently ~1.5" off std length + a ~2" radius cutout. I would like to get the nose up a bit more for wave riding, but I think it might end up a bit loose if I take more off.

Grant...cut that plate some more...that ski will never be loose!
I do agree the SXR makes a very good surf platform

Nice looking SXR! And as far as cost effective mods...I'm sure Paul could do a little porting work for you that would make the ski feel at leats 50#'s lighter..

As far as the -3.5" off of plate goes, SXR's are squirrly on flat water full of gas-frt end 'seeks a line', that goes away. u know how a 750 is famous for porposing? that comes into play a little, u can shim back of plate w/extra washer on each side and its pretty darn good. Bottom line-I have my stk uncut plate for cheezin around lake w/wife and my -3.5" plate for everything else.

Hulka,
In the year or so I've hung around here and pwctoday I don't think I ever seen a positive comment out of you, maybe you couldn't do much with your kawi but theres plenty of us who are pretty happy. I don't feel at all limited when I'm out with a bunch of very talented superjet riders.

I'm the first to admit that SJ's are ideal, but there are a lot of factors when people buy skis. My descision was made after heaps of research, I knew SJs were the pick for freestyle, I knew it was gunna cost $$ to get the SXR up to that level. But I had the money and the engineer in me makes it very hard for me to shell out $$$ on old technology, I hated the thought of paying for something that was 10yrs old, may be a silly reason but its what I did, and I'm stoked :cheer:

One arguement I always hear for the SJ is how they've been around so long its easy to do one up with 2nd hand bits, but a mate with one is doing it up for beach riding isn't spending any less than me:

-footholds pretty much everyone buys new
-turf, same
-prop, some chance of finding a 2nd hand but he bought new (didn't even need one for the SXR)
-Pipe, he managed to find a 2nd hand one but had to pay very nearly new price anyway.
-Scupper, new
-bilge, new

Theres more but thats a pretty generally accepted set for starters, and guess what?? Yep thats right hes spent more than me, and he still has to go buy a couple of hundred $$ worth of glassing materials, pull his engine and waste a weekend. :banghead:

If you're wondering who am I, what would I know just search schoey for some pics, none of a roll yet we don't get our cameraman out there all the time  . Pics are gunna start flooding in though I bought an underwater enclosure last week so when the surfs up again you'll be seeing pics of SXRs doing some big stabs, rolling, and backflipping (or smashed, we haven't quite worked out the BF'n thing yet  )

Anyway good luck with the SJ, I'm sure you'll instantly be able to roll and flip that, since its got nothing to do with skill/practice.

I'm with ya Shoey...I feel my SXR can do anything in the surf that a SJ can. (flatwater is a different story) I am VERY happy with it and I am NOT switching to a superjet.
