Super Jet Order of upgrades on 650. Footholds, Prop, pipe, 701.

Hello. I'd like to hear what you think on my plan of attack for my 650 superjet. Which I LOVE, needless to say. Madmat and the Cleveland crew suggested I ask everyone what they think. Hopefully some guys who started with 650's and everyone else can chime in for me.

Some vets rode my ski and said the first thing I'm gonna wanna do is get a prop. They are thinking a 13/16 solas. Any comments on that?

The order I want to go is footholds, prop, pipe, then 701 top end. Possibly the b-pipe before the prop...

The last thing I want to do is get the 701 top end because I figure right now I'm limited by skill and lack of footholds and not my power.

Realistically, budget wise, I'm not getting crazy power any time soon. So for the motor I'm thinking the jetmaniac 718 top end on my 6m6 cases.

I prefer to do hull/pump mods before power mods. Get your ski so it feels perfect when you ride. Footholds will help lock you in for tricks. Prop will help with hookup and (depending on pitch) help with acceleration. Both are very good options.

Personally, my order would be: Hooker 9/15 prop, footholds, full 701 swap, b-pipe.

Good luck!

I think I agree with handling mods first. I've read the sj mod sticky over and over. I know I can learn way more with my feet locked in. I think the stock sn hull handles great.

I am actually thinking about rigging up a back foot (left foot) footstrap instead of footholds for now. I'm worried I'll mount the footholds too far forward. I can't let loose with just my extinguisher holder as a front foot lifter as my only lock in.

I thought about the BOB holds because I can tweak it after glassing, but they cost what I'd pay for other holds plus composites. Are there any adjustable options max 250 dollar range?

I was riding a bone stick 650 and the book said skat-trak 14/18. It woke my ski up quite a bit. The second thing I did was put a 61x/61x and the prop still handled the power and then I put a b-pipe on and now I need a prop with a little more pitch. But I would do prop first makes rideing a lot more fun and easy pulling out of turns

Maybe I'll get a prop AND footholds in this winter. Why 9/15?

I have heard people say a stock 650 isn't much weaker than a stock 701 until it's piped. So if I'm upgrading parts in few hundred dollar increments I see a pipe being better to do first because it will likely be between next season and 2 from now to do both a complete engine upgrade plus pipe.

I'm still unsure about b-pipe compatibility between the 650 and 701.

The hooker 9/15 is a popular upgrade and has gotten very good reviews. Should work fine with your 650 and a 701 down the road.

I wouldnt start putting money into the 650, especially if the b-pipe wouldnt fit a 701 (not sure about compatibility either). I personally haven't ridden a 650 so I cant comment on the power difference, but I do know that the 701 has a lot more potential and aftermarket support.

Personally I would drop money into the engine and pump before hull. You can always carry your engine into another hull, be it a RN or A/M hull if you wish down the road.

Don't waste money on adjustable foot holds for a SN hull, you will never see that money back. Ride your ski for a little while and see where you put your feet when you ride. You mentioned you need to get more comfortable with riding the ski, get comfortable first when you feel up to tricks then go after the footholds. You can always glue some foam into the tray for temporary foot holds while you get more comfortable with the ski.

Ok. That makes sense. I'll use this hull for quite a while. Love the handling so far. It's very predictable and I'm carving harder every time I go out. I'm finding I like the way everything feels with my feet very far back. Maybe 3 inches away from the end of the tray. I'm looking at some footholds and it seems the ankle area is going to have to make me lock in quite a bit farther up then when I'm practicing jumping at the moment with no holds/straps.

The 9-15 Hooker is ok, Solas concord must be pitched down. The same impeller will work for your stock 650 to a ported 760. Make sure to inspect the crank and use new OEM seals when you change the cyl.
