No.

An exhaust leak causes the engine to have to breath fumes rather than oxygen. The main cause of overheating is lack of water flow.
Check all your lines to assure no blockage. Replace the header gasket to cure the exhaust leak.

Well that does not help me at all then. I took the sx out and I have just put in a new engine. All hoses are hooked up right and no blockage what so ever. After a 5 minute ride, with a constant water flow out of the pisser, water would sizzle on the head.

What I did so far: removed all hoses, blew compressed air through and made sure they are not blocked using flash light. I also put a smaller water hose from the manifold to the pisser since it was bigger than stock and I thought it might be letting too much water out.

What else could cause over heating? I am going to put colder plugs but I dont think it will change heat significantly.

If its a new engine (everything is tight) and the carbs are still set for normal running then you won't have enough fuel/oil running through the ski will its breaking in.

My sx had the headpipe slowly come undone and it would piss out water and definitely cause the motor to overheat. Blew out 2 exhaust tubes going to the waterbox becuase of it.

Would it matter if it was backwards...not saying that you are wrong, but wouldn't the water still flow throughout the head and cylinder even if flipped around.

it does matter, the water doesnt flow correctly. a buddy of mine found out first hand when he done it, blew the head gasket. if your standing on the right side of the ski {carb side} you should be able to read kawasaki on the head . what pipe or you running? some pics would help. if you cant get it, pm me and ill give you my number and try to help you that way

Ok I'm gonna turn out both the screws of about half a turn. I hope this adds enough mixture to cool down my engine. Ill take it for a 5 to 10 minute ride and check it again. Ill let you guys know if it helps.

definitely interested in this as i have a 650sx that has 150 and 140 compression and pisses good but overheats in a matter of minutes. All lines have been cleared and everything has water going where its supposed to. Im hoping maybe the carb is lean or something.
