Overall OVP steering system by OV products

Read in the new product releases forum about this new OVP steering. Been thinking about both the Thrust system and the Blowsion system but was leaning towards the Thrust simply because the Blowsion OVP only fits on their pole. Overall (French hull manufacturer) just released an OVP system that fits the UMI style bolt pattern. Went out on a limb and ordered it.

Ordering was a bit of a challenge because the website is in french (uh I'm just a dumb 'Merican, don't speak it). Google translator helped me out. Paypaled the money it came to $278.18 total. Ordered on Jan 10th, it arrived on Jan 18th! Of course just after I left for Daytona Freeride. 8 days though, pretty impressive shipping. By the way, they are available in black or grey according to the website but on the box it says black or aluminum finish. I got the black one so I'm not 100% sure what the other color is.

It looks just like the pictures on the website and on FB. Nice CNC work, anodizing looks good. Good SS hardware. Bearings feel really nice. Just a little stiff like a new sealed bearing should. This system has one bearing above the steering plate and one below it. So you have a lump underneath the pole kind of like a big locking collar. The spread of the bearings should improve bearing life but to be honest, every steering system failure I've had was corrosion and not wear. It has a nice heavy duty looking seal outside the normal bearing seal on both the top and the bottom bearings. Looks like a pretty nice piece of gear. Forgot to mention, these are for fat bars. The steering arm also can bolt on either side so it should work with Kawi style systems.

Put it together yesterday. I put it on my Aura pole which has the UMI style bolt holes already machined/drilled in. I had to open up two of the holes about a 1/16th " to get the bolts to line up correctly. Don't know if it was the pole or the steering system that was off but it wasn't a big deal. Highly recommend you trial fit it dry and do your drilling/machining before you grease/anti seize it up then have shavings in all your nice new grease (oops). Another note here, the steering cable fitting is directly under the bars (I have straight bars on it) so its easier to set your steering adjustments before you bolt the bars in. Also recommend swapping the usual allen head bolt for a hex head since you can't get an allen in it after the bars are on. I'm not sure if the stock yamaha style cable ends will fit on and off the ball stud with the bars on. It would be tight. Riser bars won't have this issue. I think the pics below will show better than I can describe this.

The center pin that goes through the handle pole into the bottom bearing is a tight fit. I couldn't press it in by hand but using the four bolts, crisscrossing and just going a few turns on each, it pressed in nicely.

Overall very happy the way it went together and looks on the pole.

Took it out for a quick ride and it is sweet! Buttery smooth (as it should be) but the action of having the bars inline with the pivot point is just the way to ride! I can't really describe it well but it is much more natural from the elbows to the shoulders being over the pivot. it is a bit deceiving because I lost 1.5 inches of pole length coming from the Cold Fusion steering. But I focused on the pivot point and I am sold that this is the way to ride. The only comparison I can think of is putting ape hangers or a really raked fork on a motorcycle. Cool for cruising but not very precise or fun in the twisties… For more on OVP descriptions, see @tightithrash (Zack Bright) thread on the Blowsion OVP. He describes it a bit better.

As far as the Overall system, I am very happy with it. I'll have to repost after 6 months of salt water exposure to review durability but it seems to have all the right quality and components to be durable. Also not sure about replacement bearings and seals. Didn't see any on the website. Worst case though, measure them and go to Grainger or King Bearing for replacements, maybe even McMaster-Carr.

At $278, it is more expensive than the new Thrust system with those sweet ceramic bearings but personally, I'll pay the extra bit to be OVP. Best part is it fits on my handle pole! enough rambling….pictures!

Steering stops are the same length/spread as my Col Fusion system. The steering arm where the cable bolts in is 1/8th inch longer than the Cold Fusion.

In this shot, you can see the bar/cable end interference with straight bars. I think risers start their upward bend about there and allow a little more clearance. Not an issue really but makes set up just a bit harder.

both bolts hexagonal head are used for remove the lower bearing

So what I didn't mention and Roman is saying: with the kit come two hex head 7 x 100 thread bolts and a fine thread. (The allen head bolts that clamp the upper and lower bearing together are 6 mm). Two of the holes in the lower bearing case are threaded to match the 7mm bolts. When you want to remove the steering system, you thread the two bolts in and use it sort of like a bearing puller to separate the two pieces. It would be a PITA to do it with out these bolts. Being 7mm fine thread, they are not common and would be difficult to find elsewhere.

Kind of a handy system for removal.

Nice review. I ordered this system on 1/19 and received it 1/23, pretty sweet for free international shipping. I haven't installed it yet but I too will be putting it on an Aura pole. I'll update with a ride report when the ice disappears.
 
It should bolt right onto a X-metal pole.

For a stock SJ pole, you will have to drill 4 holes. Easy to do though. Just use the steering system as a template, use a punch or marker to mark the 4 small holes then pop it off and drill your holes. Use a 1/4 inch drill bit or 6.5 mm if you have metric bits. If you measured/marked well, it will bolt right up. Otherwise you may have to open one or two of the holes up just a little. No big deal really. I had to open two of my holes up and they were manufacturer holes. Could have been the steering system off a little though. It was less than 0.25 mm though so not an issue at all.

for mounting the sterring OVparts be sufficient if the platinum Handlepole receivest the sterring is 10mm minimum thickness
the sterring perfectly fitted on the arm RRP / TITAN /
with the original holes, simply pierce for removing the threading if it exists
