Surfriding Overdue Superfreak build thread

Always wanted a Superfreak and after moving to FL I really wasn't using my diesel truck for anything other than commuting to work and back. Sold the truck to pay bills and right after that Tem posted his personal surf hull for sale. Timing was perfect and everything about this ski was exactly what I wanted in a hull! Favorite color, the length was just right for protecting nozzles yet it had rear rocker to make it ride very loose in the surf and also make it ride like a shorter hull. The nose has extra reinforcing for strength, there are mini sponsons built out of foam and covered in epoxy, the gunwalls are chopped thin behind the footholds for extra width and avoids smashing your toes while kicking in. The rear bond line seems to hang lower than a lot of Freaks also so when Ireally need to grab a rail there's a lot of surface area there to keep from sliding out of reach. Anyway I couldn't have been more stoked about this hull and happy with the transaction with Tem. He truly takes pride in his products and loves this sport. He told me to run 3 tanks of fuel through it and if I didn't like it he would buy it back. That's just unheard of! I've already had this hull built since Daytona last year and have been riding it since then. I can honestly say its my favorite hull I've ridden to date. People laugh when they ask but this was my first standup after riding a B1 for a couple years and in the surf for a year. It's been a very easy hull to adapt on and I feel like I wouldn't have progressed as quickly on another hull but who knows...

When I picked up the hull from Tem the pump shoe was broken. I considered repairing it and replacing it. I'm not a flatwater guy and I'm more concerned about strength than weight so I decided to install an aluminum pump shoe and be done with it. After chiseling out the old pump shoe the aluminum pump shoe had a little different figment to it. The outer diameter was larger and required a little grinding on the old epoxy. It also hangs lower below the hull and pushes the intake grate down further which helps for hookup so I had to add epoxy filler to reshape the tunnel and blend I to the wings of the pump shoe. I took my time to make sure the pump tunnel was smooth and symetrical to avoid cavitation and aid in hookup.

There were also minor scratches and wear marks on the bottom of the hull so I wanted to fill it and add a skim coat of thickened epoxy with cabosil to avoid additional wear since cabosil is very hard material. I also mixed black pigment in with the resin so I wouldn't have white scratches on my black finish. I don't like the look of a ski in the air with all different colors from a worn off scratched/beached paint job. Before and after pics:

My only changes throughout the year have been:
Mount rear footstrap after riding a couple times and figuring out where I wanted it

Replaced Prok filters with 2 oem 44mm single carb flame arrestors. zero water ingestion issues

Replace my SBT cable that only lasted 8 months for a Blowsion steering cable (worth the extra money)

Replace the GP reduction nozzle (with 5 degrees static trim) for a 62t reduction (bored by Zero to 85mm) nozzle because it made re-entries hard to keep the nose down. Broke that reduction nozzle on a sandbar and replaced it with a stock diameter 62t reduction nozzle (I'd rather have the beefier nozzle that's less likely to break rather than a little extra power that's not a night and day difference)

Had a used OEM starter fail a couple months ago and threw in a used aftermarket starter... It failed today so its true what they say about these junk Chinese starters. Don't waste your time. Going OEM again...

I saw the bottom of my SN when someone was riding it and feel the same way...going to repaint mine before next season. Also I love the look of the paint under the "badazz" decals after you peeled it away!

Both are welcome just don't break something that ends my weekend of riding (nozzles etc). This engine can bark pretty hard for her size. I've recently sold a lot of toys and parts/engines etc. I have a TPE964 on the way. I'm hoping its easy to tame down in comparison to the one I rode (Paul Lerhs with TL ignition). Also have a other hull on the way (really wanted a second ski rather than a shelf full of extra parts and a dirtbike that's been sitting for 3 years)

Thanks for the compliments, I truly LOVE this thing! The "BADASS" graphics leaving the lettering impression in the paint was a total accident and I instantly loved it. I thought the black was a little much cuz I'm not a sticker guy but the ghost lettering is perfec. Someday I will have to re-paint this ski. I'm definitely using the same color, looks great in the water, you can't tell its faded from the shore. Next paint job I may have to do something creative with some pearl to help protect the pigment in the paint and maybe redo the "BADASS" with a real thick layer of pearl or a different color pearl so its seen when focusing on it... Haha my mind is going just thinking about it.

If I ever repaint mine this would be the color I would like and have always thought Is unique and extra anti-collision safe....but we can't have two of these colored skis on Daytona Beach and I would be a copy cat...Its a great radical surf ski for sure.
