Overheating waterbox issue...

93 Blaster, Head, factory mod pipe, ported etc etc. (stock waterbox)

Overheated waterbox issue..

so a few weeks ago while at wavedaze my entire pump area was stuffed with sand. This happened from a result of dragging the ski around the beach and putting it back on the trailer.

Later that night stopped at a car wash to spray the ski's off and wash the sand away.

2 days later I take the blaster to the local river to run some freshwater through the ski. After about 5 minutes of riding i can smell the ski running hot and can see a tiny amount of steam/smoke coming out the hood. All pissers (head and pipe) still had strong flow out water coming out them and the water coming out did not feel any hotter than usual. Once back to the dock, lifted the hood and can see the waterbox is extremly hot. Sizzling, steaming, smoking whatever you wanna call it. It actually melted the 90 degree rubber between the mod pipe and waterbox. And discolored the waterbox where the rubber hose comes into the box.

So i just assuming that a got a block or poor flow coming from the cooling line. A few nights ago I pulled the ski apart to start blowing out the cooling lines. The only problem that I noticed was the main cooling line coming from the pump to the exhaust manifold had what I would consider a slight restriction. I blew through the line and could hear/see I little bit of crap come out at the pump area.

Is my opinion correct that even a slight restriction would be enough to only over heat the waterbox? I would assume just enough water was getting in to keep the head and pipe cool and there was nothing left over to cool the waterbox?

Opinions...any thing else I should look for?

Thanks Russ

overheating

I think running dual cooling is always a good idea. I had the same problem last week except Im running a red pipe. Turns out the pisser inside the headpipe was clogged so the pipe was running dry. The 2nd half of the pipe and waterbox got quite toasty.

I had the same issue running on a river with my blaster. Sucked some sand in and melted holes in the waterbox hose and made the long exhaust hose hard and brittle. If you are running the stock box, check that it is still sealed before running it. Mine melted the sealant around the hose connections. I don't think it takes much.

Pull off the chamber and clean out the water stinger feed too.
Always back flush the system with water flow as this will give you a visual for any restrictions in the cooling lines.

whatever came of this. did you get it fixed and how. i seem to have the same problem

Well actually I cant answer this for you. I have yet to put the blaster back in the water since. Im pretty sure I fixed the problem. I pulled every cooling line off and blew them all out. I did have a little blockage in the main cooling line coming from the pump which im guessing casued the over heating.

I will know more within the next 2 weeks once I finally get back out on the water

Just an update for you..Im still having the same problem. Ski runs awesome..of course better than ever cause the pipe and waterbox are really sizzling.

I cant run the ski for more than 2 or 3 minutes without it overheating

I pulled off all my cooling lines again and verified they are all good and clear.

This weekend im pulling my b-pipe off and will drill and tap new water screws (they are stuck). Im assuming since it it running faster and hotter than ever that I have a clogged screw....It has to be my problem.

Did you ever get your issue fixed?

Did you ever pull the head off and look in the water jacket? When you suck sand, alot of times it will pack your water jacket in your cylinders full of sand. You can't really flush it out of there because the water will just find a way around the sand and you'll run alot hotter.
