P&P Raptor Trim, is it worth the extra $$$

Hey yaw,

I'm trying to decide on what trim setup I want to go with on my Carbon XFR build and I have heard the P&P Raptor trim is as good as it gets. I havent been able to find a whole lot of detailed info on them so far and was hoping some of yaw could help.

What makes them so much better than the competition and are they worth the extra $$?

Raptor is no doubt the nicest "out of the box" trim and best performing trim.
The biggest diffrence with the raptor vs. other trims - is that raptor is designed to run a flowgaurd without any modification or maintenance
The old style XS with coupler mod and modded steering nozzle, will perform just as good - but require some maintenance.

I’ve rode my ski with the Raptor trim on a few times now and it feels sweet! Would defiantly recommend one. no messing around with it, super smooth and basically no maintenance.

Old XS performed great for me too but I was always bending it back into shape and had to have the arm re welded on, also change the coupler every so often.

Adz.

Interesting, so how would yaw say it compares to the Thrust EZ-Flow Pro trim setup? Thats the only trim system I have used before but its only a 144 and I will be running a 155 pump on the XFR.

Unless you want to get a new trim system, you can run the Thrust on a 155. Just need a 155 reduction nozzle and 155 thrust trim bushings.

Because the Raptor trim has the flowguard build in, it has more thrust when turning, and you will be able to spin, rotate or roll better.
I deffently makes a noticable diffrence it steering. running a trim with flowguard vs a normal trim no flow guard.

I can only speak for the Thrust pro system that, yes, it’s the same. I had a 144 and swapped to a 155 last year. All I had to do was swap bushings and everything bolted onto a 155 reduction nozzle.

Ive ridden Thrust trim, Xmetal w/ flow guard and the Raptor Trim. Xmetal was 10x better than Thrust IMO, and Raptor does everything Xmetal does better. Super smooth system with very high quality parts and craftsmanship. If you have the scratch do yourself a favor and just buy the Raptor.

Are you talking about running a RRP flowguard with the Raptor Trim or just the silicone ring that is built into the trim ring? I'm a little confused by your wording.

I was talking with a buddy last night who runs the Raptor trim and he was telling me the difference in steering responsiveness and the ability to roll/spin is huge compared to other trims. To the point where there have been times where he went to do a nose stab and ended up doing a full 360 by accident.

It’s priced where it is for a reason. It’s not mass produced, it is just for the guys that want/need the best of the best.
Phil took the best of every trim, came up with a better design, and added all the details to make it work properly. It does use a coupler inside to seal the flow 100%. That is a MUST.

If it is out of your price range. Next best would be a modded old style XS trim.

Plus you gota factor in a properly modded Xscream adds up too. For me the cost breakdown was....

Trim ring kit £400
Exit nozzle £160
Steering nozzle £100
Welding on steering nozzle £60
Boring of exit nozzle £20
Boring of steering nozzle £20
Silicone hose and jubilee £20

then a good few hours grinding out all the fins and bending the ring into shape, cutting the flow guard etc

It isn't so much that it is out of my price range, I gave up on that one when I ordered a full carbon Rickter. Haha I just wanted to make sure that the Raptor trim really is worth the extra cost and i am pretty convinced now that it is.

true. You are in it now! go to world finals and check out what 90% of the skis have hanging off the back. That should tell you everything. Most of those guys aren’t going to be on here.
