Paint Dispenser/container

I'm looking for some sort of container system that will allow easy dispensing of liquids in controlled amounts. I use several different clear coats, primers, paint, gelcoats, and resins, usually in small volumes at a time (<100 grams), and I'm tired of pouring out of a gallon container. Besides the obvious mess and having to clean around the container, I would estimate I waste 20% of the product. I'm looking for something similar to what you find in grocery stores for dispensing dry goods in the health food section, but for liquids and on a smaller scale. If anyone has any ideas, post them up.

What about using pumps on the gallon containers?

That's a possibility. Would have to get compatible gallon containers with pumps to transfer the primers/paints/gelcoats into from the metal containers.

Nate, couldn't you lay the bottles at an angle and have a valve on the mouth of the bottle and just fill your small batches into graduated mixing cups?
-imagine the little valve on a big liquid laundry detergent bottle for clothes washing? Isolated Commercial systems would be very expensive and take up too much room.. Just a thought.

That's kind of what I am looking for. Right now I'm pouring out of the 1 gallon cans. I'm trying to find something that holds 1-2 gallons of liquid with a valve at the bottom to release small amounts at a time.

Too baller for me and my small operation. But that's the idea, just without the mixing aspect. The first one you linked might work out pretty well, especially for primers and gelcoats that need to be agitated.

I didnt know what 100 grams are in oz.. So, 100 grams = 3.5oz basically.

These work great for gallon cans and are only $17 each.


You could buy a shelf rack at Home Depot and then buy chemical proof 1 gallon containers like these to dispense from:

That's what I'm going to try. U line has some 2 gallon containers like that and I'm picking up a couple of those pour lids for stuff with solids that settle out.

If you can find an automotive paint supplier that is changing lines or has recently changed lines, you can normally pick those lids up pretty cheap, you can turn the mixer with a drill if its a product that settles, also body shops change lines more than you might think and they often have older mixing machines they might sell on the cheap, almost everything here in Canada has gone waterborne because of voc restrictions,

If your still looking for container ideas, I just started using tide laundry detergent bottles. They have a push button for dispensing and work awesome!

Wish I had thought of that one. I might still try those. To update this thread, I picked up a bunch of the mixing tops for gallon and quarts. They work very well.

Then you do occasionally refill but you can hold ~450 grams at a time and easy to dispense.

*edit* Can always find new containers at....cheap diners
